In the Arts

Nova Scotia-born jazz vibraphonist Warren Chiasson will perform in concert with the Warren Chiasson Quartet 2 p.m. May 20 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan.

Originally a member of the George Shearing Quintet, Chiasson is known throughout the world for his distinctive four-mallet technique that he weaves into a percussive, melodic style.

Inspired by the rich culture of folk music in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Chiasson was best known for his creative contributions to the Chet Baker Quartet, the Tal Farlow Trio, and Roberta Flack prior to forming his own group. In addition to recording his own albums, he has played on more than 100 recordings with various artists including a Grammy Award winning album with B.B. King. He was also the original percussionist for the Broadway musical "Hair."

The program is free and open to the public. Details: (732) 431-7220.
