In the Arts

Jazz lovers can get in the groove 8 p.m. May 16 when The Midiri Brothers perform "Remembering Artie" as part of the MidWeek Jazz Series at the Ocean County College (OCC) Fine Arts Center, Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River.

Brothers Joe Midiri (clarinetist) and Paul Midiri (vibes), along with Dan Tobias (trumpet), Pat Mercuri (guitar), Gary Cattley (bass), Joe Holt (piano and harpsichord), and Jim Lawlor (drums) will play hot jazz and swing music for one extended 90-minute set, paying tribute to the famous clarinetist and band leader Artie Shaw.

The Midiris create their own arrangements based on transcriptions of classic recordings. They will perform new material just released on CD, based largely upon the famous Gramercy Five groups that Shaw fielded.

Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 at the door. Call the box office at (732) 255-0500.
