Governor's accident delivers a message about driving

I certainly want to wish Gov. Jon Corzine a speedy recovery from his horrific accident, but I'm still conflicted as to how this could happen.

Last month, Gov. Corzine attended a meeting at Marlboro High School to sign a bill [relating to teenage drivers and the issues they face]. This program was in the thinking stage for a while, but was pushed along after the terrible tragedy that occurred in Freehold Township in January involving the three high school students and the Old Bridge woman.

I have a 15-year-old who will be getting his permit in July. I already have a teenage driver in the family. He had his license for only two weeks and was involved in an accident on a rain-slicked road. His inexperience as a driver definitely contributed to this accident. I'm not saying it wouldn't have happened, but it's possible with ... extra training it might have been avoided.

I think it is a disgrace that Gov. Corzine was not wearing a seat belt and his driver was going 91 mph to get to a meeting during rush hour. As previously mentioned, I hope the governor has a complete recovery and that all drivers, regardless of their age, learned a valuable lesson about what the results are when not wearing a seat belt and/or speeding.
