Matt Coulson collected his first win of the season for the Monmouth University baseball team, allowing just one earned run and four hits over seven innings.

The Hawks beat Columbia, 10-3, as Coulson, a lefty, struck out a career-high six batters.

Coulson, a graduate of Freehold Borough, who went on to star at Brookdale Community College, is now 1-2 on the season.

Monmouth is off to a 13-8-1 start

Freehold Township grad Brad Brach is 3-1 with a 3.94 earned-run average.

The junior right-hander leads the Hawks in innings pitched (38.2), starts (six) and strikeouts (35). His last outing was a 145-pitch completed-game 7-4 win against Mount St. Mary in a Northeast Conference game.

His brother Brett Brach is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and is tied for the team lead in appearances (eight).

The freshman has two saves.
