Teacher to be honored with award at ceremony
Joanne Sawyer, a teacher at the Taylor Mills School, Manalapan, recently received a 2007 Great Books, Great Teachers award.
On May 4, Sawyer will be honored at an awards dinner in Chicago along with 19 other Great Books, Great Teacher award recipients from schools across the country.
The award marks special recognition of Sawyer's teaching, her use of Great Books in the classroom, and her creation of a community of teacher and student learners.
During a weekend visit to Chicago, the 2007 Great Books, Great Teacher honorees will be the foundation's special guests at Great Books Chicago 2007, an annual event for Great Books enthusiasts that includes attending a variety of cultural activities.
Junior Great Books is used by more than one million students in all 50 states and in countries around the world. According to a press release, Junior Great Books is proven to help students develop the essential skills of reading carefully, thinking critically, listening intently, and speaking and writing persuasively.
