Police dept.'s community services unit is a great asset for Marlboro

The Community Services Unit of the Marlboro Police Department is one of Marlboro's greatest assets. Through the efforts of Lt. Douglas Van Note and Sgt. Paul Conover, our community police are a constant presence in our schools and throughout our community.

The department currently has three full-time officers who also serve as School Resource Officers (SRO) for the Marlboro K-8 School District and Marl-boro High School.

These officers are responsible for personal safety programs, educational programs, business crime prevention programs, community awareness programs, the Police Explorers program, police patrol bicycle program, Domestic Violence Response Team, TRIAD and Project Lifesaver just to name a few.

They are present at alliance meetings, PTA meetings, dances and other school functions. They are present at Marlboro Day, Community Pride Day, senior programs and any other community related events.

Our public schools and high school are a safer place in part because of our Student Resource Officers. Students at Marlboro High School have the opportunity to interact with Patrolman James Ferraro of the Community Police Department on a daily basis. His presence is priceless.

Patrolman Eric Hayes and Patrolman Stephen Levy are a constant presence in our K-8 schools. The Marlboro SRO program serves as a guide for other counties. Several weeks ago Keansburg sent members of their police department to observe our SRO officers at work.

Lt. Van Note and Sgt. Cono-ver are the driving force behind this outstanding department. They are strong supporters of the Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse. They regularly attend our meetings and keep us informed of township events.

When their assistance is requested they are there with their men who are Partrolman Hayes, Patrolman Levy and Patrolman Ferraro.

Their presence at the alliance teen nights, which attract over 250 youngsters, ensures a trouble-free evening. Students as well as their families feel secure and comfortable with our community police in attendance.

In support of their efforts, the Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse would like to publicly recognize the Com-munity Services Unit for their efforts in making Marlboro a better place for all residents.
