Wine tasting aids foundation MARLBORO - The Marlboro Educa-tional Foundation, a group of Marlboro residents and business people dedicated to raising funds for innovative and creative programs not covered in the general school budget, recently held its second annual successful wine tasting event. The event took place at Brioso's in the Willow Point shopping center, Route 9. Marlboro Educational Foundation trus-tees Joyce Sugarman and Lauren Wald-man co-chaired the event. According to a press release from the foundation, Sugarman's expertise in fundraising helped arrange the wine tasting through JWG Fine Wines and Spirits, located in Wegmans, Manalapan, and she worked with Brioso's to accommodate the 136 people who attended the event. JWG Fine Wines and Spirits supplied several different wines for tasting including several pinot noirs, cabernets, rosés and whites. Brioso's served a four-course dinner with appetizers on each table. About 12 large baskets with a Valentine's Day theme were sold through a silent auction. There was a raffle, which Marlboro resident Al Storer won. He donated half his winnings of $400 back to the foundation. Guests at the event included state Sen. Ellen Karcher, state Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck, Marlboro Superintendent of Schools David Abbot and Mayor Robert Kleinberg. According to the press release, the event raised more than $7,500 for the foundation. The next event will be the second annual restaurant tasting evening, to be held April 30 at The Excelsior caterers, Route 9, Manalapan. The foundation is seeking restaurants to participate, local business to donate goods or services, and for people to volunteer. Anyone seeking information about the foundation and its upcoming events can contact the foundation at (732) 817-1482.
