'Inconvenient Truth' to be screened

COLTS NECK - Colts Neck Demo-crats will sponsor a showing of the Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," April 25 at 7 p.m. at the Colts Neck library, Winthrop Drive.

The screening of the movie will be followed by a presentation of updated information and a discussion.

According to a press release, in the film, former Vice President Al Gore lays out evidence for global warming and its predicted consequences. The film presents compelling scientific evidence and de-bunks the "it's just a natural cycle" argument.

The debate is not whether global warming is real and at least partially man-made, but exactly how fast it is progressing.

According to the film, if current trends continue, the result would be terrible conflicts caused by massive refugee movements, catastrophic impact on global economies and massive species extinctions.

The film, which runs about 90 minutes, will be followed by a discussion led by Dr. Sailesh Rao and Dr. Judy Kramer of Al Gore's Climate Project. They will present updated scientific information beyond that shown in the film.

They will also describe specific steps individuals can take to reduce their own contribution to the situation and discuss legislative initiatives that are under way to address the problem at a broader level.

The event is open to the public. For more information call Anne Shoemaker at (732) 946-8327 or send an e-mail to coltsneckdems@optonline.net.
