Volunteers sought for horse races Monmouth Park, Oceanport, will host the 2007 Breeders' Cup World Championships on Oct. 26-27. This will be the first time this racing event has come to New Jersey. Due to the magnitude of the event, the state is actively seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated volunteers to work at the Breeders' Cup World Championships. Volunteers will be needed for a number of positions ranging from guest services to parking services, according to information provided by Lynn Mathews of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture. Volunteers will not be paid and will be expected to fulfill the duties associated with their position's responsibilities. However, they will be an integral part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships and crucial to the execution of the event. The mission of the volunteer program is to provide world-class customer service to Breeders' Cup attendees and to provide support to existing staff at Monmouth Park in Oceanport. Those willing to commit their services, time and energy to the event are invited to fill out a volunteer application and return it to Monmouth Park by May 1. Applicants will be notified by mail of their interview time. Volunteer selection will be determined during the interview process. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. To receive an application, contact Lynn Mathews at the New Jersey Department of Agriculture at (609) 984-4389 or Lynn.Mathews@ag.state.nj.us. Breeders' Cup Limited administers the Breeders' Cup World Championships, thoroughbred racing's year-end championships consisting of 11 races and $23 million in purses.
