Dedicated temple members to be honored on June 10

MARLBORO - On June 10 at the annual Gala Journal Dinner Dance, the Marlboro Jewish Center will honor three dedicated volunteers who have inspired their congregation through their generosity, leadership and commitment to their community. On that evening, Tom Salzer will be the guest of honor and Iris and Barry Lurie will receive the Ohev Shalom Award.

Marlboro Jewish Center will also acknowledge and thank the families of the honorees for their support of the considerable commitment of time and energy devoted to the betterment of the community, according to a press release from the synagogue.

Salzer is the immediate past president of Congregation Ohev Shalom. During his tenure, he guided the synagogue through a challenging period of transition. He served five years on the executive board as president, executive vice president and vice president of membership.

Salzer and his wife, Melinda, along with their children, Adam and Lindsey, joined Marlboro Jewish Center upon moving to Marlboro in 1996. His commitment to Judaism is derived from his mother, a Holocaust survivor, and his father, an early immigrant to Israel, according to the press release.

Salzer is the president of Advanced Information Services, a software and consulting firm that specializes in helping clients make more profitable business decisions using Business Intelligence software.

Barry and Iris Lurie have served the congregation and the greater Jewish community in a number of leadership capacities. Barry has served on the Board of Trustees for 18 years, 14 of which were on the executive board in such leadership roles as president, executive vice president, vice president of house and financial secretary.

The Luries have lived in Marlboro for 38 years and have been synagogue members for 30 years. The have three adult children and seven grandchildren.

Barry has been affiliated with Abe Lurie Parkway Vans Inc. for 45 years and serves as vice president of Century 21 Mack-Morris Iris Lurie.

Iris, president/broker of Century 21 Mack-Morris Iris Lurie, began her company nearly 19 years ago.

A commemorative ad journal will be published as a keepsake of this event. Contact Bonnie Komito, executive director, at (732) 536-2300, ext. 101, for any additional information regarding advertising in the ad journal or the gala celebration honoring Tom Salzer and Barry and Iris Lurie.
