Joseph Frances Charland Sr.

Mr. Charland, 84, of Manalapan, died Feb. 22, 2007, at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Edison before moving to Manalapan 37 years ago. He served in the U.S. National Guard, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Charland was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, in 2004, as well as a daughter, Joan West, and a grandson, Christopher. He is survived by a son, Joseph Charland Jr. of Manalapan; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Patricia and Ronald Sereno and Linda and John Hye, all of Manalapan, Fran Charland of Howell, and Denise and Tony Menza of Englishtown; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manal-apan, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
