Time to change clock and smoke detector battery

Smoke alarm batteries need to be changed once a year. Daylight savings time begins on March 11 this year, and serves as a reminder to change smoke alarm batteries at the same time. Once batteries have been changed, all smoke alarms should be tested to be sure they are working.

This quick and simple process cuts the risk of dying in a home fire by nearly half. To help prevent fire deaths and injuries, change the batteries for each smoke alarm in the home before going to bed on Saturday night.

For more information on this life-saving program, call James Gaul, public education officer, Howell Fire Bureau at (732) 938-4500, or your local fire department.
