Musich to chair Zoning Board
BY KATHY BARATTA
Staff Writer

MANALAPAN - The Zoning Board of Adjustment met on Jan. 18 to reorganize for the new year.

Maryann Musich, who served as vice chairwoman of the board in 2006, was elected to serve as chairman for 2007.

Musich, who is the administrator of the East Brunswick Sewerage Author-ity, said she has served as chairman in previous years during her service as a zoning board member. Musich served on the panel several years ago, left the board, and then returned to the seat she now holds.

Her husband, Anthony, serves on the Manalapan and Monmouth County transportation boards.

Musich said she is looking forward to serving as Zoning Board chairwoman.

"I am looking forward to working with my fellow board members to continue to try and do what is best for the town and also in keeping with what the (township) master plan dictates."

The master plan is the blueprint used by officials in planning the continuing development of Manalapan.

Applications that come before the Zoning Board seek variances from established municipal regulations (i.e., an applicant who wants to place a commercial use in a residential zone). The board members listen to testimony on each application and then make a determination to grant or deny a variance from the regulations.

Also during the reorganization meeting, Arthur Tortorelli was elected by his fellow board members to serve as vice chairman.

James Gorman, of Shrewsbury, was reappointed as the board's attorney and Patricia Reiser was reappointed as the board's recording secretary. Mark Lescavage, of CME Engineering, Howell, returned as the board's engineer.

Maureen Castellani was appointed to a three-year term on the board, replacing Cynthia Maurino.
