Obituaries Eleanor "Nornie" Lambertson Hesseltine
Mrs. Hesseltine, 90, of Red Bank, died Jan. 12, 2007, at Navesink Harbor, Red Bank. She was born in Freehold. She was an avid tennis player and platform tennis player, and won several local tournaments as well as the National Senior Platform Tennis Champion-ship. Mrs. Hesseltine was recently inducted into the Freehold High School Hall of Fame for her basketball skills. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Clair Emmett Hesseltine, in 2001; and a brother, William Lambertson. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth H. DeBree of Fair Haven; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Mrs. Pace, 85, of Howell, died Jan. 12, 2007, at CareOne at East Brunswick. Born in Cosmiso, Italy, she came to the U.S. in 1954 and had lived in Syracuse before moving to Howell in 1993. Mrs. Pace was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Giuseppe, in 1996. Surviving are two sons, Salvatore J. Pace of Newark, Del. and Gianfranco R. Pace of Freehold; a sister, Concetta of Argentina; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Mr. Prupis, 58, of Marlboro, died Jan. 12, 2007, at home. Born in Newark, he had lived in West Orange before moving to Marlboro. He was a salesman for Sleepy's mattress store in Howell. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Diane; two sons, U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Russell Prupis and Daniel Prupis, both of Marlboro; a daughter, Rachael Izadora Prupis, also of Marlboro; his mother, Helen Prupis of West Orange; a brother, Jeffrey Prupis of Nanuet, N.Y.; a sister, Shari Ann Quirk of West Orange; and three granddaughters. Mrs. McCahill, 75, of Red Bank, died Jan. 13, 2007. Born in Jersey City, she resided there before moving to Red Bank nine years ago. Before her retirement, Mrs. McCahill was a secretary at St. Aloysius High School and St. Peter's College, Jersey City. She was a daily communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was predeceased by a brother, Herbert Coffey. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, James McCahill; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nora and Michael Monaghan of Little Silver, Katie and Jack Redmond of Howell, and Sheila and Tombo Jurek of Little Silver; a sister, Grace Colino of Lyndhurst; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Church, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Clarence Brock Mr. Brock, 78, of Freehold Township, died Jan. 5, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Louisa County, Va., he had resided in Millstone Township before moving to Freehold Township in 1976. Mr. Brock was a carpenter and craftsman, retiring in 2006. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diane Goodson. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elnora; three sons, Jerome Brock of New Brunswick, Carl Brock of Lakewood and Clarence Brock of Trenton; three daughters, Jessie Harris of Philadel-phia, Robin Brock of Freehold and Sheila Lewis of Lakewood; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the First Baptist Church, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, both Freehold Township. Arrangements were under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.
George Goussis Mr. Goussis, 86, of Freehold Township, died Jan. 5, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York City, he had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township in 1970. Prior to retiring in 1975, he was a mink and sable furrier for the fur manufacturing industry in New York City. He was also a part-time Realtor in the Monmouth County area. A World War II veteran, Mr. Goussis served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a former member of the Lafayette Club, Brooklyn, a past president of the Freehold Borough Lions Club, and a member of both the Freehold Township Republican Club and American Legion Post 54, Freehold. In addition, he served on the Freehold Township Transpor-tation Board and belonged to the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Inc. Mr. Goussis was predeceased by his wife, Luba, in 2006, as well as a brother, Gus Goussis, and three sisters, Agnes Ferentinos, Alice Berros and Fannie Kyprides. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Fred Cutolo Jr. of Freehold Township; two grandchildren; two nephews, and two nieces. Anne V. Ciano Mrs. Ciano, 88, of the Covered Bridge section of Manalapan, died Jan. 6, 2007, at Pine Brook Care Center, Manalapan. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., and various other places before moving to Manalapan 26 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1984, she was a forklift driver for GlaxoSmithKline, Piscataway, for 15 years. She was also a communicant of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna and Anthony Catania of Manalapan, and Theresa Noto of Boca Raton, Fla.; a son, Donald Ciano of Manalapan; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Gabriel's Historic Church, Marlboro. Interment was private.
Jane Louise Bovie Mrs. Bovie, 86, of Howell, died Jan. 9, 2007, at Imperial Care Center, Neptune. Born in Howell, she was a lifelong resident of Howell. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Brick. Prior to retiring in 1960, she was an assembly line worker at Air Cruisers, Wall Township, for 10 years. She was predeceased in 1958 by her husband, John , and in 2005 by a son, John H. Surviving are one brother, George A. Matthews of Howell; one sister, Evelyn Ketcham of Englishtown; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, with interment at Adelphia Cemetery, Howell. Antonio Caccamo Mr. Caccamo, 68, of Monroe Township, died Jan. 7, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born and raised in Sicily, Italy, he moved to the United States at the age of 16 and lived in New York for many years before moving to Manalapan 39 years age and then to Monroe three years ago. Mr. Caccamo was the owner of Caccamo Woodworking, Brooklyn, where he specialized in architectural woodworking. He belonged to the Regency Italian-American Club, where he was also a member of the Men's Club. He belonged to four golf clubs including Forsgate, The Meadows, Concordia and The Regency. He was a founder of the Manalapan Soccer League and also served as a coach in the Manalapan Pop Warner football league. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Zavattieri, in 1981. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary (nee Faraci); a son, Nunzio of Lake Ariel, Pa.; a daughter, Angela Green of East Brunswick; two sisters, Rose Caruna of Spotswood and Josephine Sarti of Monroe; and one granddaughter. A funeral service was held at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Howard Duffy Mr. Duffy, 85, of Marlboro, died Jan. 9, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Free-hold Township. Born in New York City, he had resided in Kinnelon before moving to Marl-boro 24 years ago. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Duffy was an art director for an advertising agency. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and belonged to the 12th Armored Division Association. Surviving are his wife, Jacquelin Benner Duffy; a son, Howard P. Duffy of Jersey City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patrice and John Lambusta of Williamsburg, Va., and Janet and Jason Hine of Trenton; a brother, James Duffy of Paramus; and two grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa.
Ella Schaeffer Frederick Mrs. Frederick, 98, of Marlboro, died Jan. 9, 2007, at home. Born in Maidencreek, Pa., she had lived in Bristol, Pa., before moving to the Morganville section of Marlboro six years ago. Mrs. Frederick was predeceased by her husband, Henry, in 2000; and a son, Ronald H. Frederick Sr., in 2005. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and John Shallock of Marlboro; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her friend, Tammy. George Baumann George B. Baumann, 89 of Howell, died Jan. 11, 2007, at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, New York City. Mr. Baumann was born in Elizabeth and had lived in Freehold Township before moving to Howell 13 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1995, he was an operations manager with the Schering-Plough pharmaceutical company, Kenilworth, for 37 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Mr. Baumann was a member of the Fulton Boys and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his wife, Letty-An, in 1996. Surviving are two sons, George Baumann of Freehold Township and John Baumann of Pensicola, Fla.; two daughters, Karen Baumann of Myrtle Beach, N.C., and Mary Baumann of East Windsor; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at St. Catherine of Siena Chapel, Farmingdale, followed by entombment at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. Born in Philadelphia, she was raised in Jackson. Prior to moving to Freehold Township in 1990, she had lived in Englishtown for many years. Mrs. Reid was a supervisor in the publication department at McGraw-Hill, Hightstown, for 22 years. She also was a bookkeeper for Especially For You Florist, Freehold, for 10 years, retiring in 1995. She was an active member of the Silvermead Community Club, Freehold Township, and attended Mass at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Mrs. Reid was predeceased by her husband, Darryl M. Reid, in 1988; a grandson, Michael Reid, in 1993; a brother, Daniel Zanchuk; and a sister, Josephine Benjamin. Surviving are three sons, Darryl J. Reid of Howell, William M. Reid of Jackson and Vernon E. Reid of Lynchburg, Va.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Joseph and Millie Reid of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Willetta Linke of Jackson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Olga Eitelberg Olga B. Eitelberg, 87, of Freehold Town-ship, died Jan. 10, 2007, at home. Born in Newark, she had lived in South Orange before settling in Freehold Township in 1973. Mrs. Eitelberg owned and operated Town and Country, Maplewood, and was also the store's clothing designer and seamstress. She later owned and operated the Korner Gift and Stationery store, South Orange. She also worked at Silhouette women's clothing store, Freehold. She was a member of the first graduating class of Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts. Olga had a great love of oil painting and the arts. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. Mrs. Eitelberg was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Lipski and a sister, Natalie Sinisgalli. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Alfred Eitelberg of Freehold Township; one son and his wife, Mark and Debbie Eitelberg of Salinas, Calif.; two daughters, Judith Eitel-berg of Miami, and Dori Eitelberg of Ocean Township; two grandsons; and two nephews and their families. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Free-hold Township. Entombment took place at Maplewood Township Cemetery, Freehold Township. Herbert Savage Herbert J. Savage, of Union Beach, died Jan. 14, 2007. Born in Philadelphia, he grew up during the Depression in Jersey City. He was a U.S. Army corporal during World War II, serving in the Medical Corps. He retired in 1981 from his job of 35 years as a millwright with National Lead, Sayerville. He enjoyed camping and traveling. Mr. Savage was predeceased by a son, Glenn; a sister, Dorothy; and a brother, Leonard. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence; two daughters, Linda of Union Beach, and Carol and her husband, Ron of Bridgton, Maine; a son, Roger, and his wife, Rhea, of Marlboro; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emma. A memorial service was held at Old Tennent Church, Manalapan, followed by burial at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Born in Jersey City, she had resided in Freehold for most of her life. Mrs. Hawthorne was a saleswoman for Britt's, Freehold Township. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Freehold. She was predeceased in 1988 by her husband, Harry Hawthorne. Surviving are two sons, Harry J. Hawthorne of Freehold Township and Jack W. Hawthorne of Virginia; two daughters, Elizabeth F. Higgins and Joyce L. Davino, both of Freehold Township; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Cindy Bowman officiating. Interment followed at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Tania Svinareff Mrs. Svinareff, 91, of Wall Township died Jan. 10, 2007, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Odessa, Russia, she came to the U.S. in 1923 and settled in New York before moving to Howell in 1944. She had resided in Wall Township for the past six years. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Svinareff was predeceased by her husband, Dimitri M. Svinareff, in 2004. Surviving are three sons, Gregory Burela of Freehold, Michael Austin of Wall Township, and James Austin of Adamstown, Pa.; a daughter, Helen Aserdziev of Howell, a brother, Nicholas Stoiaken of Minneapolis; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Interment was private at St. Vladimir's Cemetery, Jackson.
Louise Clayton-LaStation Mrs. Clayton-LaStation, 92, of the Adelphia section of Howell, died Jan. 11, 2007. Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., she moved to the Adelphia area in 1933. She was an aircraft spotter during World War II. She was a member of many clubs and organizations including the Molly Pitcher Chapter of the Eastern Star, Women's Club of Freehold, and the Ladies Auxiliary-Howell Township Fire Company No. 1. Mrs. Clayton-LaStation, along with her first husband, C. Ensley Clayton, had owned and operated the C.H.T. Clayton & Sun Funeral Home, Adelphia, until 1979. She was predeceased by a son, C. Ensley Clayton, in 1942; her first husband, C. Ensley Clayton, in 1969, and her second husband, William LaStation, in 1994. Surviving are a son, Charles Clayton of Adelphia; a daughter, Anne McCarty of Howell; and two grandsons. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Adelphia Cemetery, Adelphia.
Constance Jordan Mrs. Jordan, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, died Jan. 15, 2007, at home. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she had lived there for most of her life before moving to Morganville in 1985. Prior to retiring 25 years ago, she worked as an adjuster for the Talbot-Byrd insurance company, New York City, for more than 40 years. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. Mrs. Jordan was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Louis Jordan, in 2006, and a brother, Anthony Cerreto. Surviving are a sister, Celia DeLuca of Morganville; and three nieces, JoAnn Perrini of Monroe, Elaine Harrison of Stamford, Conn., and RoseAnn Gillie of South Carolina. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Gabriel's Historic Church, Marlboro, followed by entombment at St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Marlboro.
