Gellman's talents to be showcased
With a successful 20-year career in the media, Gary Gellman continues to develop projects that give back to the community. Gellman's latest local effort, featured at Brookdale Community College's West-ern Monmouth campus, Route 9 south, Freehold Township, has been coor- dinated by Director Helen Z. Antholis with Lewis B. Lokitz, executive director of the youth service organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County. Gellman's talents will be showcased from Jan. 17 through Feb. 27 in the exhibit "So You Want to Be an Artist: Gary Gellman's Guide to Building a Career in the Arts." The community is invited to a "meet the photographer" reception to be held Feb. 7 from 5-8 p.m. A special invitation is extended to middle school and high school students to attend and learn how they can develop a career in the arts. Gellman's latest photo exhibit features local Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the children they spend time with. "To build a career in the arts, you have to give back to the community," he explained as his motivation to spotlight the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. "We hope this exhibit will create greater awareness of this organization's value to the community and encourage volunteers to step forward and mentor a youth." Brookdale's Western Monmouth campus is at 3680 Route 9 south, Freehold Township, behind the Bank of America. The free exhibit to be displayed in the Art Gallery, room 101, will be open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call (732) 625-7005.
