Police dept. achieves accreditation

MANALAPAN — Police Chief Stuart C. Brown and Capt. Louis Moreto went before the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police accreditation commission Dec. 14 after having put the Police Department through an independent audit of the agency in an effort to comply with what are nationally recognized as best practices for the law enforcement community.

According to a press release from the Manalapan Police Department, this accreditation, which is recognized by the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), a national organization, means that outside law enforcement professionals examined the department’s policies, procedures and practices and have certified that the department is providing the best law enforcement services to the community.

This process was initiated in January and was completed by September.

“This is testimony to the caliber of police professionals within the department,” said Moreto, the accreditation manager who coordinated the effort.

“We are very proud of the fact that we are the first municipal law enforcement agency in Monmouth County to receive this accreditation standard,” said Brown. “This will also result in a cost savings to the residents of Manalapan as the insurance industry gives a liability cost reduction for achieving this level of professionalism.”

The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police will be making a public presentation to the agency in the near future to recognize this achievement.
