Course opened residents’ eyes to law enforcement

Recently, I completed an innovative 10-week course, the Civilian Police Academy, that explained to members of the community the services of Monmouth County law enforcement.

A firearms demonstration, K-9 drills, crime scene investigation, crime and terrorism prevention, and a tour of the Monmouth County correctional facility were included in the program that is under the auspices of Monmouth County Sheriff Joseph W. Oxley.

But it was more than speakers and demonstrations. It showed what the women and men in law enforcement contend with on a daily basis to keep our communities a safe place to live and work. All of the officers donated their free time to be a member of this program.

I commend and thank coordinator Undersheriff Ted Freeman and his team, Sgt. Kevin LaGravenis and Cpl. Butch Condone, for their hard work in making this a most interesting and informative course.
