Educational foundation accepts gift from Staples

MARLBORO - Staples Inc. presented the Marlboro Educational Foun-dation (MEF) with a $1,500 donation during a community preview event to celebrate a new Staples store.

The event was held on Nov. 21 at the new Staples in the Marlboro Plaza, Route 9 north.

Staples general manager Bob McDowell joined Teja Anderson, the president of the MEF, and Mayor Robert Kleinberg in a unique ribbon shredding ceremony to officially open the new Staples.

"Staples is excited to be entering Marlboro and playing an active role in building a better community," McDowell said. "We are very proud to present a $1,500 donation to the Marlboro Educa-tional Foundation. By supporting local organizations like the foundation, we are able to give back to a community that welcomes Staples as a good neighbor."

Awarded from the Staples Foundation for Learning Inc., the donation will help the MEF promote excellence in education through the identification, development and distribution of resources to benefit and enrich the students of the Marlboro K-8 School District.

According to a press release, the mission of the Staples Foundation for Learning, founded in 2002, is to teach, train and inspire. The foundation has contributed more than $8.5 million to national and local charities that provide educational opportunities and job skills for all people, with a special emphasis on disadvantaged youth.

Anderson said, "We are delighted that Staples is entering the Marlboro community not only as a valuable economic resource, but as a community partner that will support our local charities. We greatly appreciate the $1,500 donation which will provide additional funds to ensure educational excellence and innovation and help promote community participation in school programs."

The new Marlboro Staples is a 22,786-square-foot facility featuring more than 7,000 products and other signature services including Staples Copy and Print Center, Easy Rebates and the Staples Rewards program.

The store will celebrate its official grand opening on Dec. 9. Store hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
