| MANALAPAN - An Eagle Scout project has led to the restoration of the fitness trail at the Manalapan Recreation Center, Route 522.
Scott Ginsberg, 16, a junior at the Marine Academy of Science and Tech-nology, Sandy Hook, is a 10-year scout-ing veteran. With help from fellow Scouts and friends from school, he was able to refurbish the fitness trail as his Eagle Scout community project.
Scott is the son of Rebecca and Alan Ginsberg.
Scott said he began the project in May 2005 by clearing garbage and debris from the 1.5-mile-long fitness trail. The fitness trail includes stations where people can stop and exercise along the way. Scott said original equipment such as a sit-up bench and a pull-up bar were removed because they were rotting.
He said both pieces were replaced in October with new equipment fashioned from coated steel. Scott said it is expected that the new equipment will last for up to 20 years.
He said the installation of the equipment marked the completion of the project.
Speaking about the project that helped him to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Scott said, "It shows commitment to goals and a willingness to help others through community service."
Mayor Drew Shapiro and the Township Committee recently recognized and thanked Scott for his commitment and hard work on behalf of his fellow citizens.
