St. Peter's bazaar to be held Nov. 18

FREEHOLD - The Women of St. Peter's Church in downtown Freehold invite the public to attend a holiday bazaar on Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The bazaar, a local tradition since the 1930s, will be held in the Parish Hall adjacent to the historic church on Throckmorton Street.

Hand-crafted crystal jewelry, stained glass gifts and decorative items for Christmas will be available for purchase, along with an assortment of "Attic Treasures" and historic Freehold afghans in cranberry, navy or hunter green.

In addition, a brand-new parish cookbook, "Therefore Let Us Keep the Feast," which features 400 recipes from parishioners' kitchens, will be offered for sale.

Parking is available in the Broad Street parking lot behind the church. Look for signs and banners providing directions to the bazaar.

Proceeds from the bazaar and cookbook sales will be used to support the ministries of St. Peter's.

St. Peter's congregation began holding services in a small meetinghouse at Topanemus in 1702.

The church in Freehold was begun in 1771 and served as a shelter for the wounded during the Battle of Monmouth. It was finally completed and opened for worship in 1797.

St. Peter's is the oldest public building in Freehold Borough and is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
