Kershaw, Ammiano re-elected FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - Running uncontested, Anthony J. Ammiano and Raymond A. Kershaw won re-election to the Township Committee on Election Day, Nov. 7. Ammiano received 6,069 votes and Kershaw received 5,921 votes, according to the Monmouth County Internet Web site. "The residents of Freehold Township are very special," Kershaw said in reaction to the voter turnout. Ammiano moved to Freehold Town-ship from Newark 11 years ago. He won election to the committee in 2000 and took office in January 2001. He was re-elected to a second term in 2003. He served as deputy mayor in 2003 and is serving as mayor in 2006. "We like to run [Freehold Township] like a business," Ammiano said in a previous interview. "That business approach allows us to offer the services that we do." Kershaw has served on the Township Committee since 1991 and has previously served as mayor and deputy mayor. Kershaw has said part of the success of Freehold Township is due to strong leadership within the departments that make up the municipality. In addition to Kershaw and Ammiano, the other members of the Township Committee are Dorothy Avallone, David Salkin and Gene Golub. All five members of the governing body are Republicans.
