School board will fill open seat

ENGLISHTOWN - Ten residents of Manalapan are seeking an appointment to the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education.

The board is expected to interview the candidates on Nov. 13 and choose one person to fill the seat that opened after board member Dorothy Porcaro resigned in September.

The 10 residents who are seeking the seat are Judith Tolchin, Eric Gulotta, Debra Carnesi, Tim Tower, Paul Sagnelli, Gina De Palma, Pamela Allison, Valerie Maglione, former Manalapan mayor William Scherer and former board member Martin Spindel.

Board secretary Joseph Passiment said the applicants will be interviewed in a public session by board members at a meeting on the evening of Nov. 13 meeting. He said board members will adjourn to executive session to discuss the applicants before returning to the public session to announce the new board member.

Passiment said as far as he knows the board members will make their decision that same evening.

The person selected to fill the open seat will serve until the April election. At that time, if the appointee wishes to retain the seat and finish out the final year of Porcaro's unexpired term, he or she will have to run and be elected in the April election in order to do so, according to Passiment.

The board has nine members; eight of whom are residents of Manalapan and one who is a resident of Englishtown.
