Open space properties have a significant value to municipality

As chairman of the Marl-boro Open Space Com-mittee, I would like to respond to a letter to the editor that appeared in the News Transcript on Oct. 25 regarding the purchase of 3.7 acres on Tennent Road for open space ("Resident Says Cost of Open Space Parcel Is Exorbitant").

The open space committee is an advisory committee that makes recommendations to Marlboro officials about land to acquire for open space.

Our committee only presents the merits of the property for preservation and does not get involved in price negotiations. The price is negotiated by the township administration after several professional appraisals are done.

The property on Tennent Road adjoins the Little League fields and other township-owned property, making it an ideal parcel for future use in conjunction with the Little League fields.

Please remember that every parcel of land that is saved from development helps to stabilize taxes, reduce traffic and provide land for recreation and a healthy environment for Marl-boro residents.

The open space and agricultural advisory committee joint meetings, which are open to the public, are held on the last Thursday of each month at 7:15 p.m. in the administration building.
