Choir to perform at capitol

MARLBORO - For the second year in a row, the New Jersey Holocaust Commission has invited the Marlboro Middle School show choir to perform at the state's annual Kristallnacht com-memoration.

The choir is under the direction of music teacher Barbara Pollack.

The Kristallnacht commemoration will be held on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in the State Capitol building, Trenton. At that time 59 students will be singing "Exodus," the title song from the 1960 movie of the same name, written by Ernest Gold, who won an Oscar for the score. Words were added in 1961 by Pat Boone.

In 2005 the show choir performed "Ha Shalom" at the Kristallnacht commemoration.

The audience for the Nov. 13 public performance is expected to include Gov. Jon Corzine, state officials and dignitaries from New Jersey organizations.

In the past five years, the Marlboro Middle School show choir has been recognized for its outstanding performances at various music competitions. In 2006, the choir received a gold award at the Williams, Va., Music Festival as well as the adjudicator's trophy for receiving a score of 95 or better.

In 2005, the show choir received the gold award at the Heritage Festival in Orlando, Fla., and was asked to perform at Epcot in Disney World.

In 2004, the choir was awarded first place and received a "superior" rating at the Music in the Park Festival in Cleve-land.

In 2003, the choir received a gold award at the Heritage Festival in Orlando, Fla.; and in 2002, the show choir received a gold award at the Heritage Festival in Williamsburg, Va.

In addition, the show choir has been invited to and performed at Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza, New York City, several times in the past four years.
