Margaret Louise La Mel

Mrs. La Mel, 67, of Jackson, died Oct. 17, 2006, at home. Born in Neptune, she had resided in Freehold before moving to Jackson nine years ago. She worked for many years as a supervisor for the former Langeveld Bulb Co., which was located in the Freehold area. She was a member of the Jackson Estates Mobile Home Association. Mrs. La Mel was predeceased in 1993 by a son, Joseph Scott. Surviving are her husband of 45 years, David; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Debra La Mel of Wichita Falls, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debra La Mel of Freehold, and Donna and George Weiss of Brick; a brother, Leon Marter of Hightstown; a sister, Joan Tedesco of Florida; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

Edward P. Daly

Mr. Daly, 82, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died Oct. 18, 2006, at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Newark, he resided there before moving to Cliffwood Beach in 1951. Mr. Daly was a physical science technician and was awarded several patents while employed at Fort Monmouth for 32 years, retiring in 1979. Following retirement, he drove a school bus for Wooley's Buys Co. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Mr. Daly was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Daly and Frederick Daly. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Walbroel Daly; three daughters, Mary Bader of Rumson, Joan West of West Long Branch, and Patricia Daly of Matawan; two sons, Edward R. Daly of the Avenel section of Woodbridge, and Richard J. Daly of Howell; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Church, followed by entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary M. Kevlin

Mrs. Kevlin, 84, of Howell, died Oct. 21, 2006, at Crossroads at Howell. Born in Marion, Ohio, she was one of 16 children. She was a lifelong resident of Jersey City before retiring to Whiting and then moving to Howell five years ago. Prior to retiring in 1990, she was employed by the state of New Jersey, Jersey City, for 10 years as a visiting homemaker. Mrs. Kevlin is survived by three sons, Norman and Gary Bauman, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Michael Kevlin of Manalapan; a brother, Roger Postell of Ohio; five sisters, Doris Needles of California, and Florence Dawson, Betty Osbourne, Sheila Cornelius and Sharon Betty, all of Ohio; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements, which were private.

Essie Mae Maples

Mrs. Maples, 86, of Freehold, died Sept. 30, 2006, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. A lifelong resident of Monmouth County, she had resided in the Pergolaville section of Manalapan before moving to Freehold. Mrs. Maples was employed in many different fields, retiring in 1991 from the housekeeping department of the John L. Montgomery Care Center, Freehold Township. She is survived by two daughters, Ethel L. Maples of Freehold and Margaret A. Marlow of Lakewood; seven sons, Joseph Maples of Detroit, Harry Maples of New Brunswick, Robert Maples of Farmingdale, Nathaniel Maples of Eatontown, Frank Maples of Piscataway, Edward Maples of Freehold, and Gregory Maples of Brooklyn, N.Y. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, with Bishop Dr. Charles Simmons officiating. Interment followed at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.

Stanley W. West

Mr. West, 87, of Decatur, Neb., a former longtime resident of Freehold, died Oct. 21, 2006, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was educated in the Freehold school district and was a 1939 graduate of Freehold High School. He married Juliette deLigny in 1942, and the couple resided in Freehold for 52 of their 54 years of marriage, moving to Decatur in 1995. For most of his adult life, Mr. West was a baker. He and his sister ran a family business with their father called the Home Bakery of Freehold for more than 40 years. A U.S. Army veteran, he entered the military in 1939 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He served in the 44th Division of the Quartermasters. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 4374, Freehold, and a former communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine and St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic churches. He was also a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur. Mr. West was predeceased by wife Juliette; two brothers, Johnny and Peter; a sister, Viola; and a daughter-in-law, Susan West. Surviving are a son, Stanley West of New Brunswick; a daughter and son-in-law, Dot and Dick Connealy of Decatur; a brother, Gene West of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and one granddaughter. A memorial Mass was celebrated at Holy Family Church, Decatur, with the Rev. Jim Kramper officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later date at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Pelan Funeral Services, Tekamah, Neb., is in charge of arrangements.

Herman Mostowsky

Mr. Mostowsky, 72, of Freehold, died Oct. 22, 2006, at home. Born in New York City, he had lived in Queens, N.Y., before moving to Freehold 36 years ago. Prior to retiring in 2004, he was a self-employed hardware salesman for more than 50 years. Mr. Mostowsky was predeceased in 1995 by his wife, Arlene Mostowsky. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Michael Cleary of Manalapan; a son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Jodi Mostowsky of Freehold; five grandchildren; and longtime companion Sheila Levinson. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. Memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Central Jersey Chapter, c/o Jared Goal, 740 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

Agnes G. Lee Geiger

Mrs. Geiger, 72, of Hazlet, died Oct. 24, 2006, at Laurelton Village Care Center, Brick. Born in Jersey City, she resided there and with her daughter in Howell before moving to Hazlet 30 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Mrs. Geiger was predeceased by her husband, Arthur H. Geiger, in 1999. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Diane Geiger of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Thomas Korkowski of Howell; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, with interment at the church's cemetery. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Peter Kusulas

Mr. Kusulas, 65, of Fair Haven, died Sept. 6, 2006. Born in Perth Amboy, he had resided in Tottenville, N.Y., Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Colts Neck before moving to Fair Haven. He was an electrical engineer and engineering manager at Bell Labs, Naperville, Ill., and later at Lucent Technologies, Holmdel, from 1963-2000. He began work on the earliest digital telephone system designed for customer premises. Following retirement, he chaired the borough of Fair Haven Long Range Planning Committee, and was a member of the mayor's World War II Monument and Finance committees. He is survived by his wife, Rose Greco; two brothers, Elias Kusulas of Naperville, Ill., and Theodore Kusulas of Whitestone, N.Y.; two nieces; and a nephew. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.
