Habitat ride called a success

More than 525 motorcycle riders came together on a sunny fall day to raise money for Western Monmouth Habitat for Humanity's seventh annual Ride for Affordable Housing.

Bikers from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware gathered at AMC/Loews Freehold Metroplex, Free-hold Township, to begin their police-escorted ride through Monmouth County.

According to a press release, the event raised more than $50,000 for Habitat and was the most successful ride to date.

"It's amazing that so many caring people, bikers and sponsors, were able to make this ride so successful. The money raised will go to our local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a wonderful organization that has been building homes for those less fortunate throughout the world. The $50,000 represents enough funds to build an entire Habitat house," said James Wishbow, event chairman.

The motorcycle trail cruised through Freehold, Millstone Township, Upper Freehold Township, Roosevelt, Manal-apan, Marlboro and Colts Neck, before ending at the Colts Neck firehouse where food was provided for all by Carrabba's of Middletown and Brick Township.

"We want to acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by the New Jersey State Police, the Freehold Township Police Department, the Manal-apan Police Department and the Colts Neck Police Department. With the help of their efforts, the ride was truly a great success," Wishbow said.
