Flag honors heroes of 9/11

Martin Mabe, of Manalapan, (third from left) recently donated a "Flag of Heroes" to the township. Mabe, an emergency services volunteer, said he donated the flag in honor of his father, Larry, a decorated World War II veteran and community volunteer who passed away last year. The flag is hanging in the courtroom at town hall. The stripes of the flag bear the names of all known emergency services personnel who died in the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001. Attending the presentation of the flag were (l-r) Capt. Robert Ditota, Englishtown-Manalapan First Aid Squad; Manalapan Police Chief Stuart Brown; Mabe; Chief John Marini, Manalapan Township Fire Company No. 1; Chief Lee Maksimik, Gordons Corner Fire Company; and Chief Richard W. Hogan, Manalapan Township Fire Bureau.
