Washington, D.C., trip set

The Monmouth County Historical Association is sponsoring a fall get-away to Washington, D.C., and Mount Vernon, Va. Join the MCHA bus-trippers on Nov. 8-11 to tour the new museums in Washington and at Mount Vernon.

The trip participants will be among the first to see the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center at Mount Vernon which will feature 20 galleries and three theaters all tucked away underground. Martha Washington will visit with the guests during the day.

In Washington, stops will include the newly reopened National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian's American Art Museum. Both have been closed for six years during a complete renovation of their building and extensive conservation and reinstallation of their collections.

Just outside of the city, the tour will visit Woodlawn, built in 1805, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Pope-Leighey House and then enjoy a colonial-style lunch at Gadsby's Tavern and a guided tour of historic Alexandria, Va. The trip home will include a stop at historic New Castle, Del., for lunch.

The cost for the trip is $1,200 per person, based on double occupancy and includes all transportation, three nights deluxe accommodations in Washington, three breakfasts, three lunches and two dinners, a full day at Mount Vernon and 10 percent discount at the gift shop and a professional tour guide as an escort. All taxes and tips are also included. Call (732) 462-1466 for further information.
