Manalapan H.S. to host music festival

MANALAPAN - The Manalapan High School Marching Braves will serve as host for a marching band competition Oct. 21 as part of the United States Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) competition festivities for 2006.

The event will feature eight marching bands performing music while marching in formation. Color guard members will enhance the field show with choreographed movements and visual aids such as colorful flags. The participating bands are categorized according to size and compete against bands within their specific group. Trophies will be awarded at the end of the competition.

The following high school marching bands will compete: Shore Regional Blue Devils from West Long Branch, Brick Township Marching Dragons, Sayreville War Memorial Marching Unit, Long Branch High School Spirit of the Green Wave, North Brunswick Raiders, and the Jackson Memorial Jaguar Band.

The Manalapan Marching Braves will perform in an exhibition.

The performances will begin at 3 p.m. on the Manalapan High School football field on Church Lane, off Tennent Road, Manalapan. Food and refreshments will be available. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children, seniors and students.

All are welcome to attend the family event. In the event of rain, the competition will be moved indoors.

All proceeds will benefit the Manalapan High School music program and students. Sponsorships and advertisement opportunities are available at several different levels. Details: (732) 972-5427 or mlennox@optonline.net.
