Police see no pattern in acts of vandalism Marlboro police said there are no patterns related to several acts of vandalism that have occurred in the municipality during the past few weeks. From Sept. 19 through Oct. 3, more than 15 acts of criminal mischief were reported to the Marlboro Police Department. Damage to cars, homes, the Regal Cinemas and other commercial buildings was reported by residents and business owners. Four reports of car windows being broken were reported on Sept. 19 and Sept. 30, and two cases were reported on Oct. 3. The incidents occurred on Manor Drive, Pheasant Drive, Wyncrest Road and Millay Road. A caller on Sept. 22 told police the tires of a car that was parked at Chips Salon, South Main Street (Route 79), had been slashed. On Sept. 19 a caller reported that damage done to a vehicle and a commercial building appeared to have been caused by a hammer. The incident occurred at Crystal Air Assoc-iates Inc., Ryan Road. On Sept. 19 police reported that vandalism was done to an unoccupied residence on Buck-ley Road. According to reports, unknown individuals went onto secluded property and threw a concrete planter through the front window of the home. The perpetrators kicked in the front storm door, which pushed open the unsecured door to the home. Police said it did not appear as if the individuals entered the residence and the owner of the home confirmed that nothing appeared to have been tampered with or removed. The front lawn was damaged by a vehicle spinning its tires. On Sept. 24 it was reported that three individuals in a teal minivan were spray-painting objects and trying to spray people. The incident occurred at the Regal Cinemas, Route 9, at 7:16 p.m. Police arrested all three individuals allegedly involved in the incident. On Oct. 3 a caller reported that a construction vehicle parked on Colby Place was hit with paint balls; the rear window of the truck was broken. In an interview with the News Transcript on Oct. 6, Marlboro police Detective Sgt. Paul Reed said the acts of vandalism are not related to any one group of perpetrators and the crimes have not occurred in any specific location. Reed noted that Marlboro has been having a problem with some parks being vandalized recently and therefore police have increased patrols in those areas. He said unmarked and marked patrol cars have been increased on Friday and Saturday nights in residential areas and in what Reed called the "quality of life areas." "We keep an eye on the situation to see if there's a pattern to it and there is no pattern in the vandalism," Reed said. "We just get hit like every other town with little acts here and there."
