Brookdale will host pet fair

The Monmouth County SPCA has announced that its 13th annual Pet Fair and Dog Walk will be held at Brookdale Community College, 765 Newman Springs Road (Route 520), Lincroft, on Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to a press release, the spacious lawns, nature trails and free parking at Brookdale lend themselves well to the planned festivities, which include demonstrations of dog agility, Frisbee-catching, lure coursing and a police K-9 demo. For the children there will be arts and crafts and face painting. Food and beverages will be provided by Brookdale Catering Services and Starbucks.

In addition to a 50/50 raffle and the doggie wedding chapel, this year's new attractions include a dog masseuse, Frisbee contest and the "Bark and Bend" dog/person limbo contest. The Wag Band will provide music, and state Assemblyman Mike Panter is this year's honorary pet walk chairman.

Prizes for top fundraisers are: $1,000 travel gift certificate, an entertainment package, and a home office package.

Minimum pledge to participate is $25; for those who do not want to walk a dog, shelter animal sponsorships are available for $50. To qualify for fundraising prizes, participants must be pre-registered by noon Oct. 6.

All proceeds benefit the homeless, abandoned and abused animals at the Monmouth County SPCA. For a brochure or more information, call (732) 542-2030 or visit the SPCA's Internet Web site at www.monmouthcountyspca.org.
