FT's Parker, Moskal collect BOM victories
Pat girls win junior division

Janel Parker and Ali Moskal picked up wins for Freehold Township at the Shore Coaches Battle of Monmouth Invitational.

The cross country meet's competition was by class.

Parker's win in the Junior Girls led the Patriots to the team championship over Red Bank Catholic, 13-16. Parker toured the 5K layout at Battlefield State Park in Manalapan in 19:56, the second best time of the day.

Teammates Lindsie Sai (21:44) and Ashley Cordiner (22:45) were sixth and 12th overall, but in the team scoring, the Pats trio were 1-5-7, edging RBC's 3-4-9.

Moskal won the sophomore girls division with a 20:31.

Madeline Coburn (22:11) and Allison Cooper (23:44) were eighth and 13th overall, but the team scoring of 1-9-13 brought the Pats home in second place behind RBC (15).

Colts Neck was third with 30. Overall, Alyssa Morgan was eighth, (22:03), Ashley Rizzo, 10th (22:17) and Lindsey Rappleyea, 12th (23:20).

In the senior girls division, Freehold Township's Charlotte Walsh finished second in 20:02 behind East Brunswick's Eric Comerford, who turned in the fastest time of the day, 19:53.

Megan Patterson, of Freehold Borough, was ninth in that race at 21:29.

Colts Neck's girls went two-three in the freshman race, run over 3,200 meters. Jessica Fasano (13:12) and Eva Wimberly (13:17) finished behind RBC's Michelle Capozzi (12:48).

MacKenzie Roche of Freehold Borough (13:32) and Chelsea Thorsheim of Freehold Township (13:45) were fourth and fifth as the Freehold District's future stars shined.

Freehold Township (30) and Colts Neck (32) were second and third behind RBC's 17.

On the boys' side, Manalapan's Joe Kreppein was second in the senior race, posting a 17:26. Princeton's Jeff Wray won the race in 17:16.

Freehold Township had three runners in the top 10: Chris Ernst, sixth (17:55), Jack Tarpey, ninth (18:06), and Joe Solek, 10th (18:08). The Pats (25) were a very close third in the team chase behind Princeton (22) and Southern Regional (23). Only three points separated the top three teams.

A Manalapan Brave also led the area contingent in the junior division. Ryan McGilvray's fourth place (17:44) led the Braves to a second place in the team championship. The Braves' 21 team points were only two points away from champion Highland (19).

Jon Gorenc was seventh (17:56) and Eric Tymezak was 10th (18:11).

Manalapan finished second in the sophomore race behind Highland Regional, 19-23.

Jon Nagel (18:25) and Matt Gabor (128:26) led the Braves' effort with fourth- and fifth-place finishes.

Freehold Township had two top-10 finishers in Andrew Posen (19:37) and Ryan Spadolo (18:55), who were sixth and ninth.

Freehold Borough's Cody O'Flaherty was second to Princeton's Henry Feder, 10:57-11:04. Four seconds in back of the Colonial was Freehold Township's Randy Spadola (11:08).

Next up for the local harriers will be the Oct. 4 Freehold Regional District Championships at Holmdel Park.

That will be followed by the Oct. 7 Shore Coaches Invitational, also at Holmdel.
