Colonial dinner to be served

On Saturday evening Oct. 7, the Monmouth County Historical Association will host a Colonial Harvest Dinner, a special benefit at one of its historic sites, the Covenhoven House, 150 W. Main St., Freehold, from 6-10 p.m.

An elegant dinner featuring colonial fare will be prepared by the Metropolitan Cafe and guests will enjoy tavern music performed by Tom and Marianne Tucker.

The event is also supported by Freehold Savings and Loan Association, Lomurro, Davison, Eastman and Munoz, William J. Redmond and Associates, Higgins Memorial Home, and Especially for You Florist and Gifts.

The menu includes roasted pumpkin bisque, Maryland crab cakes, blue cheese and bacon salad, braised beef short ribs and cheddar cheese biscuits with apple and pear cobbler for dessert. Tickets for this event are available at $100 per person, a portion of which is tax deductible. Call (732) 462-1466 for further information. Proceeds will be used to support preservation projects at the MCHA's historic properties.

The Covenhoven House was built in 1752 for William and Elizabeth Covenhoven and served as British general Henry Clinton's headquarters before the Battle of Monmouth in June 1778. Currently, it is the site of MCHA's Open Hearth Cooking Program, an educational program for schoolchildren, which is supported by PNC Foundation.

The Monmouth County Historical Association's Museum and Library is at 70 Court Street, Freehold. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The library is open Wednesday through Saturday. For membership or admission fees and further information, call (732) 462-1466 or visit www.monmouthhistory.org.

The Monmouth County Historical Association received an operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
