O'Flaherty, Moskal score wins in FARC Summer 5K Race Series

Youth was served up when the Freehold Area Running Club's Summer Race Series started its 24th year Wednesday night.

Freehold Borough's Cody O'Flaherty, 14, was the overall winner of the 5K race inside Battlefield State Park in Manalapan, while Allison Moskal, a distance runner at Freehold Township High School, finished first among the women.

O'Flaherty toured the 3.1-mile Battlefield State Park layout in 18:00 to finish well ahead of Salihagic Mirza, who ran for Freehold Borough High School, and who posted a 19:10. Manuel Arpi was third at 19:17. Moskal stopped the timer in 20:19 to finish ahead of Megin Peirson (20:56) and Maggie Freeman (21:23).

The overall top 10 behind O'Flaherty, Mirza and Arpi were: Brian Roche (19:24), Andrew Posen (19:34), Todd Briggs (19:42), Brian Wheeler (19:50), Bob Derringer (19:59), Marc Bloom (20:06) and Moskal, who was 10th.

Age group winners for the men were: 14-under, Matt Colen (21:18), 15-19, Posen; 20-29, Briggs; 30-39, Wheeler; 40-44, Roche; 45-49, Joe Kelly (23:22); 50-54, Jim Pate (21:41), 55-59, Bloom; 60-69, John Nowathowski (21:54) and 70-79, Ralph Garfield (23:52). Women's age group winners were: 14-under Caroline Kellner (22:06); 20-29, Nicole Sanchez (23:37); 30-39, Allison Hagenberg (25:10); and 40-49, Pam Spadola (22:08).
