Obituaries Virginia White Mrs. White, 87, of Freehold, died June 6 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Louisburg, N.C., and had resided in Freehold for the past 66 years. Mrs. White was a certified nurse's aide at the Geraldine L. Thompson Medical Home, Wall Township. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church, Neptune Township, where she was a mother of the church, deaconess, and member of the Willing Workers. She was also a founding member of the Concerned Citizens of Freehold and NAACP Chapter of Freehold. She was predeceased by two sons, William Hilliard Jr. and Jesse L. White; a daughter, Samora Peace; and two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. White is survived by six sons, Albert and Jack White, both of North Carolina, Fred and Eugene White, of Freehold, Sylvester White of Neptune, and Paul White of Jackson; three daughters, Dorothy and Phyllis White and Shakeera Moss, all of Freehold; a sister, Mary Yarbrough of North Carolina; 36 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three goddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services were held at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Willie James Brown Mr. Brown, 88, of Freehold, died June 4 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Augusta, Ga., he had lived in Farmingdale before moving to Freehold 44 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1983, he worked for Waltrich Plastics, Tennent section of Manalapan, for 15 years. He had previously been employed by Washington Forge Inc., Englishtown, for 22 years. He was also a member of Overcoming Faith Temple, Freehold. Mr. Brown was predeceased in 1988 by a son, Willie Brown Jr. Surviving are his wife, Jeannette Green Brown; two sons, Roosevelt Brown of Freehold and Sylvester Brown of Long Branch; three daughters, Margaret McCloud of Trenton, Nellie Manning of Freehold and Ethel Devereaux of Toms River; three brothers, Floyd and George Brown, both of Brielle, and Wille Brown of Belmar; two sisters, Rosalie Paige of Brielle and Minnie Earl of Sanford, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Church of God, Freehold, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
John F. Conroy Sr. Mr. Conroy, 76, of Keyport, died June 11 at home. Born in Union Beach, he resided there before moving to Keyport in 1968. Mr. Conroy was a tool and die maker for Silverline Windows, North Brunswick. He previously was employed at LaVoie Laboratories in Morganville, Ronnie Packaging in Dunellen, the Hyatt-Clark in Union, and served as chief of police in Union Beach. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Conroy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances Auriemma Conroy; four sons and two daughters-in-law, John Conroy of Aberdeen, James and Terri Conroy of Howell, Edward and Patti Conroy of Matawan, and William Conroy of Keansburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Rich Batdorf of Tinton Falls, and Sharon and Dr. Joseph Cicenia of Hoboken; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert Fitzpatrick of Matawan; a brother, Edward Conroy of Petaluma, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, with interment in the church's cemetery. Arrangements were by the Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Cesar A. Cortes, M.D. Dr. Cortes, 76, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, died June 12 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Born in Cadiz, Spain, he received his medical degree from Madrid University. He came to the United States in 1958 and lived in Chicago and other cities before moving to Morganville in 1978. Dr. Cortes served his medical residency at Columbus Hospital in Chicago, his psychiatric residency at Tulane University in New Orleans, his neurological training at the Banting Institute in Toronto, and a residency in child psychiatry at McGill University in Montreal. He received a master's degree in social psychiatry from Columbia University, New York City. He was a diplomate of the American College of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Cortes is survived by his wife, Kathy; and a daughter, Amber Cortes of Brooklyn, N.Y. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
Robert F. Schear Sr. Mr. Schear, 75, of Howell, died June 14 at the Rose Garden Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Toms River. Born in Elizabeth, he had been a resident of Howell for the past 55 years. Mr. Schear owned and operated Tel-Appli, Neptune, until his retirement in 1980, after which he was a service technician in Freehold for 3M. During his retirement, he also delivered auto parts for Norwood Auto Parts Distribution, Lakewood. He was a communicant of St. Veronica Roman Catholic Church, Howell. Mr. Schear was predeceased by his wife, Nina, in 1982; and two brothers, Joseph and Carl Schear. He is survived by his former wife, Regina Schear of Howell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Cathy Schear of Howell, and Paul and Kathy Schear of Bayville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kevin and Suzanne Wood of Toms River; two brothers, Gerard Schear of Lakewood and Thomas Schear of Milford, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; 10 nephews; and six nieces. The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Veronica Church, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown, Burlington County. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
Esther Cammeyer Mrs. Cammeyer, 88, of Manalapan, died June 8. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she resided for 78 years before retiring to Covered Bridge in Manalapan. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Cammeyer worked at P.S. 135 in East Flatbush, N.Y. She also did volunteer work for the Hebrew Educational Society and Congregation Beth Tikvah. After her move to New Jersey, she volunteered for the Covered Bridge Chapter of Women's American ORT and the Senior Nutrition Program at Marlboro Jewish Center. She was a member of the Paragon Club and a founding member of the Kaplan Family Circle. Mrs. Cammeyer was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Cammeyer, in 1976; and a brother, David Kaplan. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Sherman and Ronnie Cammeyer of Jackson Township and Lake Worth, Fla., and Russell and Sherry Cammeyer of Marlboro; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. Patricia E. Barkalow Mrs. Barkalow, 77, of the Cream Ridge section of Plumsted, died June 5 at home. Born in Freehold, she had resided there for most of her life before moving to Delaware. She had lived in Cream Ridge since 1997, and was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption, New Egypt section of Plumsted. Mrs. Barkalow was predeceased by her husband, James R. Barkalow, on June 1. She was also predeceased in 2005 by a son, Michael J. Barkalow. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Sharon Barkalow, Daniel and Kathy Barkalow, and David and Jane Barkalow; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Richard Kalinauskas, and Colleen and Edward Doody; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
