Margaret G. McCarthy

Mrs. McCarthy, 79, of Freehold, died May 10 at Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Jersey City, she had lived there before moving to Freehold. Mrs. McCarthy was a customer service representative for Sears, Union City, before her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, St. Rose of Lima Senior Citizens Club, Freehold Township Senior Citizens Club, Court St. Rose of Lima Catholic Daughters of the Americas No. 737, St. Rose of Lima Rosary Altar Society, SCAN Senior Citizens, Eatontown, and Royal Arcanum. She also was a representative to the Monmouth County Office on Aging and a member of Stage Struck Strutters. Mrs. McCarthy was predeceased by her husband, George E. McCarthy, in 1991. Surviving are two sons, Robert G. McCarthy of Clark Summit, Pa., and Timothy J. McCarthy of Brick Township; three daughters, Diane R. McCarthy of Toms River, Maureen D'Arienzo of Wyckoff, and Susan Arillo of Little Falls; a sister, Rita Sabella of Harrington Park; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by entombment at St. Rose of Lima Mausoleum, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to the Jerry McCarthy Arts and Entertainment Fund to benefit the program at Brandywine Assisted Living at The Gables, Attn: Ulla Melyan, 515 Jack Martin Blvd., Brick 08724. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Ripish Sr.

Mr. Ripish, 84, of Jackson, died May 12 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Helmetta, he had resided in Howell for 22 years before moving to Jackson 14 years ago. Prior to retiring 22 years ago, Mr. Ripish was employed by E.I. DuPont Imaging Technologies, Parlin section of Sayreville, as a machinist for 30 years. He was a member of the DuPont 10- and 25-year clubs. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 15031, Trenton. Mr. Ripish is survived by his wife, Irene Bubnowski Ripish; a son, Joseph Ripish Jr. of Jackson; a daughter, Linda Goldstein of Basking Ridge; a sister, Helen Fareno; and one grandson. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Helmetta, followed by burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Monroe. The Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River, was in charge of arrangements.

Ann Veronica Mahon

Miss Mahon, of Freehold, died May 19 at home. She was born in Freehold and was a lifelong resident. Prior to her retirement in 1980, Miss Mahon had been employed by the U.S. government at Fort Monmouth for 35 years, retiring as a supervisory procurement analyst. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. She was a graduate of Rider University, Lawrenceville. Miss Mahon is survived by a cousin, Charlotte Tilton of Lady Lake, Fla. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Martha M. Borowsky Bedle

Mrs. Bedle, 73, of Whiting, died May 15 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in the Browntown section of Old Bridge, she had been a resident of Browntown and the Morganville section of Marlboro before moving to Whiting 12 years ago. Before her retirement in 1995, Mrs. Bedle worked in the accounting department of Summit Bank, Hazlet. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Borowsky. Surviving are her husband, David H. Bedle; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Jackie Bedle of Morganville; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Zierold of Ohio; two sisters, Kathryn Tomasello of Whiting and Minnie Holmes of Aberdeen; four brothers, Anthony and Frank Borowsky, both of Morganville, Ernest Borowsky of the Wickatunk section of Marlboro, and Ted Borowsky of Old Bridge; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at the Day Funeral Home, Keyport, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Gloria M. Yaskin

Mrs. Yaskin, 78, of Matawan, died May 16. She was born in Elizabeth and had lived in Marlboro for 14 years before moving to Matawan two years ago. Before her retirement in 1990, Mrs. Yaskin worked for New Jersey Transit as a coach cleaner for 20 years. She was a member of Crossroads Assembly of God, Englishtown. She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Groeling; her second husband, John Yaskin; a sister, Marian Snyder; two nephews; and a great-niece. Mrs. Yaskin is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria Dee and Dave Martin of Umatilla, Fla., Dorothy and Dave Thompson of Newville, Pa., Susanne and Chuck Kuebaugh of Harrisburg, Pa., and Donna and Richie Schlenger of Paisley, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Deb Groeling of Radcliff, Ky., and David and Louise Groeling of Goderich, Canada; a sister, Alexandra Bowden of Old Bridge; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Ann Danskin of Tampa, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Robert Snyder of Marlboro; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. A funeral service was held at Crossroads Assembly of God Church, followed by interment at Forest Green Memorial Park, Marlboro. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Fun-eral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.

June Mercadante

Mrs. Mercadante, 76, of Montville, died May 18 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Newark, she had lived in Caldwell before moving to Montville in 1986. Mrs. Mercadante was a homemaker. She was a member of the Campagna Condo Association. She was predeceased by a brother, Peter DePaolo; and a granddaughter, Alyssa Mercadante. Mrs. Mercadante is survived by her husband of 57 years, Angelo; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Joanne Mercadante of Freehold; and two granddaughters. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall Township. Catherine J. Feilner

Mrs. Feilner, 83, of Howell, died May 18 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Lodi, she had lived in Jersey City before moving to Howell 20 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1986, Mrs. Feilner was a bookkeeper for S.S. Kresge Co., Jersey City. She was a member of the Howell Senior Citizens Center for 20 years. Mrs. Feilner was predeceased in 1992 by her husband, Harold. Surviving are a son, John Feilner of Cranford; a daughter, Diane Moran of Howell; three brothers, Matthew Yagadics of Smyrna, Ga., Salvatore Vella of Jersey City and William Vella of Manchester; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Aloysius Church, Jackson, followed by burial at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.

Janet Mercer Freeman

Mrs. Freeman, 74, of Freehold, died May 21 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Freehold, she had been a lifelong resident. Before her retirement, Mrs. Freeman was a music teacher and grade school teacher from 1959 to 1998 for the Freehold Borough School System. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold, where she was a member of the church choir. Mrs. Freeman was predeceased by a son, Maurice, in 1972. She is survived by her husband, Richard Freeman Jr.; and three daughters, Viveca and Janetta Freeman, both of Freehold, and Celeste Freeman-Robinson of Hatfield, Pa. The funeral service was held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Bernard Charles Guinter

Mr. Guinter, 81, of Potomac Falls, Va., died May 21 at Loudoun Hospital, Leesburg, Va. Born in Morristown, he was a longtime resident of Freehold until he and his wife moved to Potomac Falls recently. Mr. Guinter was employed at AT&T Bell Labs for 42 years, retiring in 1984. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served at Okinawa with the 3rd Fleet. He was predeceased by his wife, Susan. Mr. Guinter is survived by two sons, Stephen of Potomac Falls, Va., daughter-in-law Diane, and two grandchildren; and Brian of Northbrook, Ill., daughter-in-law Jody and stepdaughter Lindsay; his brother, Robert Guinter of Rockaway, sister-in-law Joan and their three children and seven grandchildren. A private funeral service will be held for both Bernard and Susan Guinter at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Dolores Wolff

Mrs. Wolff, 72, of Manalapan, died May 9 at Madison Center, Matawan. Born in Queens, N.Y., she resided there prior to moving to Covered Bridge seven years ago. She was a keypunch operator at Palisades Institute, Greenwich Village, N.Y., for 45 years, retiring in 1998. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 1997. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and mari Wolff of Aberdeen; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Xavier Espinoza of Queens, N.Y.; a brother, William Thompson of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; a sister, Betty Zehner of York, Pa.; and four grandchildren. Christine A. M. Devaney

Mrs. Devaney, 51, of Millstone, died May 14 at home. Born in New York City, she had been a resident of Millstone for many years. Mrs. Devaney was a registered nurse for the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township. She was predeceased by her father, Ernst E. Donfried, in 1998; and a brother, Joseph Donfried, in 1989. Mrs. Devaney is survived by her husband, Paul J. Devaney, and a son, Paul J. Devaney Jr., both at home; and her mother, Lieselotte Donfried of Millstone. Funeral services were held at Grace Lutheran Church, Freehold, with the Rev. Dr. J. Francis Watson officiating. Ceil Crichton

Mrs. Crichton, 73, of Cave Creek, Ariz., died May 18 at Hospice of Valley in Glendale, Ariz. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Manalapan before moving to Arizona. Mrs. Crichton was an administrative assistant for J.C. Anderson in Mount Laurel, and later for the U.S. Government at Fort Monmouth and for McGraw-Hill Publishing, Hightstown. She was predeceased by her husband, Neil Crichton, in 1978. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lisa Crichton of Shamong, Burlington County; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Matthew Bohnert of Cave Creek; a brother, Michael Sclafani of Staten Island, N.Y.; a sister, Carol Burnett of Venice, Fla.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by interment at Forest Green Memorial Park, Marlboro. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
