Down Memory Lane

Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller paid a visit to the Freehold Raceway Mall, Freehold Township, in the mid-1990s and autographed baseballs for Eric Barsnica, 6, and his brother, Thomas, 9, of Manalapan. Feller won 266 games, all for the Indians, in a career that stretched from 1936 to 1956. He pitched three no-hitters and 12 one-hitters. Feller was a member of the Indians' 1948 World Series champions.
Phil Simms had completed one season with the New York Giants when he came to Freehold Township for a sports banquet in June 1980. Simms, who went on to throw 199 career touchdown passes and win a Super Bowl MVPaward, chatted with Tom Parkes and Lisa Levchuk of Freehold High School during the event at the Freehold Gardens Hotel.
