Obituaries Jean Elizabeth Bowden Mrs. Bowden, 69, of Freehold, died Jan. 2 at Gateway Care Center in Eatontown. Born in Long Branch, she had resided in Highlands and Ocean Township before moving to Freehold two months ago. Prior to retiring in 2000, she was employed as a medical secretary for Dr. Sudhakar Kharod in Asbury Park for 15 years. Surviving are two sons, Robert Bowden of Howell and Grover Bowden of Manalapan; a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and James Klenk of Freehold; two sisters, Jennie Ulander of Neptune and Helen Freeman of Springfield, Mass.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Bay View Cemetery, Middletown. Robert E. Murphy Mr. Murphy, 58, of Freehold, died Jan. 2 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Queens, N.Y., he had resided in Elmont, N.Y., before moving to Freehold 18 years ago. He was employed as vice president of risk management for Chase Home Finance, Iselin section of Woodbridge, for the past 25 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1967-69, and was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Mr. Murphy was predeceased by his wife, Elaine, in 2005, as well as his father, John; a brother, Frank; and two sisters, Joan Mellet and Mary Nelan. Surviving are two sons, Michael and Christopher, both of Freehold; his mother, Edna Murphy of Queens; a brother, Thomas of Ringwood; a sister, Carol Hynes, also of Queens; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Jeffrey Paul Pascarella Mr. Pascarella, 46, of Lakewood, died Jan. 2 at home. Born in Lakewood, he had resided in Jackson for most of his life before moving to Lakewood two years ago. A graduate of Howell High School, he earned a bachelor of arts degree from Stockton State College (now The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey), Pomona section of Galloway, and his teacher certification from Georgian Court College (now University), Lakewood. Prior to retiring in 2000, he was employed by the East Windsor Board of Education as a social studies teacher for 14 years. He received the N.J. Teacher of the Year award and was a wrestling coach as well. Mr. Pascarella was a communicant of St. Veronica’s Roman Catholic Church, Howell, where he also volunteered. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Pascarella, in May 2000. Surviving are a daughter, Leona Pascarella of Mount Holly; a son, Jeffrey Pascarella of Jackson; his mother, Leona Pascarella of Jackson; three brothers, Thomas Pascarella of Freehold, David Pascarella of Harrisonburg, Va., and Stephen Pascarella of Red Bank; and his former wife, Monica Pascarella of Jackson. The funeral liturgy was offered at St. Veronica’s Church, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lakewood. The George S. Hassler Funeral Home, Jackson, was in charge of arrangements. Anna Tradesco Mrs. Tradesco, 95, of Freehold, died Jan. 4 at the New Jersey Eastern Star Home, Bridgewater. Born in Union City, she had lived in Keystone Heights, Fla., before moving to Freehold in 1995. Prior to retiring in 1977, she worked various office jobs as a “Kelly Girl,” an old term for temporary help, for 11 years. She was also employed by Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, for several years. She was a communicant of Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent section of Manalapan, as well as a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Guiding Star Chapter No. 36, Cliffside Park, and Order of Amaranth, a Masonic-affiliated organization. Mrs. Tradesco is survived by a son, Ronald Hoser of Florida; a daughter, Martha Savoia of Hackensack; and five grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Nancy Crane Moser Mrs. Moser, 93, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died Jan. 4 at the life-care retirement community. Born in Elizabeth, she had resided in Middletown for 20 years before moving to Freehold Township six years ago. She was past regent of the N.J. Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as a member of the Elmira College Alumni Association and the First Presbyterian Church of Rumson. Surviving are her husband, Raymond; a son, Harry Moser of Chicago; two daughters, Alice DiMascio of Philadelphia and Jane Kelly of Scotch Plains; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold. Interment was private. Robert Edward McKown Mr. McKown, 55, of Howell, died Jan. 5 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was known as “Ed Bob” and “Peaches.” Born in Atlanta, he had lived in Howell for the past 32 years and was a graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough. He was a communications technician for AT&T, Somerville, for 20 years. Mr. McKown served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry Edward and Natalie Barnes McKown, and a sister, Juanita Pittard. Surviving are his wife, Terry Stelmaszek McKown; a son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Missy McKown of Jackson; a daughter, Shannon McKown of Howell; his mother-in-law, Ann Stelmaszek of Englishtown; and three grandchildren. American Legion services were held, with Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, in charge of arrangements.
Christine Padalino Mrs. Padalino, 78, of Dover Township, died Jan. 6 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Manalapan for 38 years before moving to Toms River two years ago. Prior to retiring in 2001, she was a senior training technician for the Monmouth County Association for Retarded Citizens, Morganville section of Marlboro, for 27 years. She was also a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Englishtown. Mrs. Padalino was predeceased in 1993 by her husband, Nicholas. Surviving are two sons, Nicholas Padalino of Amsterdam, Holland, and Tony Padalino of Bearsville, N.Y.; a daughter, Mary Jean Padalino of Toms River; a brother, Vincent Vigliante of Manalapan; and two sisters, Virginia Vigliante of Manalapan and Antoinette Queheille of Brooklyn. A funeral liturgy was offered at Our Lady of Mercy Church, followed by entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
Joseph James Biddle Mr. Biddle, 81, of Manalapan, died Jan. 9 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Colts Neck, he had lived in the Englishtown area all his life. Prior to retiring, he was a chemical operator at the Hercules chemical plant, Parlin section of Sayreville, for 22 years. He was predeceased by a brother, Henry Biddle, and four sisters, Francis Biddle, Irma Ravally, Evelyn Vanuschek and Alma Volkers. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Rosemarie Narozniak Biddle; five sons, Bobby of Jackson, Joey of Freehold, David of Virginia, Mark of Millstone and Ralph, also of Freehold; four daughters, Kathleen of Englishtown, Suzan of Millstone, Tina of Old Bridge and Marybeth of Maryland; a brother, Lester; four sisters, Pearl Etsch, Millie Zicha, Florence Canzon and Edith Manfredi; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Sara Anne Graham Mrs. Graham, 76, of Freehold Township, died Jan. 15 at her home. She was born in Aniston, Ala., and moved to Freehold Township 40 years ago. A graduate of Jacksonville State Teachers College, Alabama, with a major in music, she taught piano and was the church organist for the Silver Chapel at the Fort McClellan Army Base in Alabama. Mrs. Graham is survived by her husband of 53 years, Garrett Randall Graham; and two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Graham of Bedminster, and Avery and Darcy Graham of Freehold Township. A memorial gathering and service was held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold.
Dominick Paci Mr. Paci, 87, of Holmdel, died Jan. 17 at Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Manalapan before moving to Holmdel. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. Mr. Paci is survived by his wife of 59 years, Generosa Paci; a son, Sebastian Paci of Oxford, N.Y.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jody Paci of Englishtown, and Mary and Daniel Hickey of Manalapan; a daughter-in-law, Karoline Paci of Howell; a sister, Rose Cincotta of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
John J. Fitzpatrick Mr. Fitzpatrick, 66, of Hamilton, formerly of Marlboro, died Jan. 11 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (or ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Brooklyn, Long Island, N.Y., and Marlboro before moving to Hamilton three years ago. Prior to retiring in 1986, he was a New York City police officer for 20 years. After retiring from the force, he worked for private security firms in the New York City Diamond District for 18 years, retiring in 2004. He was a U.S. Army veteran and an avid New York Yankees fan. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Phyllis Reilly Fitzpatrick; a son, Martin Fitzpatrick of Bradley Beach; three daughters, Donna Lehnert of Longwood, Fla., Christine of Somerset and Margaret of Spotswood; two brothers, James Fitzpatrick of Jackson and Gerald Fitzpatrick of Sayville, N.Y.; a sister, Anne Bannon of Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; and four granddaughters. Funeral services were held at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Gabriel’s Historic Church, Marlboro. Interment took place at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, also Marlboro. Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.
David Duncan Mr. Duncan, 72, of Freehold, died Jan. 15 at home. Born in Boydton, Va., he had resided there before moving to Freehold 55 years ago. He was employed by Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital for more than 35 years, and as a scorekeeper for Freehold Raceway, Freehold, prior to retiring in 1995. A U.S Army veteran, he served in the Korean War. He was also a member of Walter J. Conley Elks Lodge No. 1379, Freehold. Surviving are two sons, Darryl Duncan of Florida and Michael Duncan of New Jersey; two brothers, Willie Duncan of Freehold and Carwell Duncan of Boydton; three sisters, Hattie Hines of Asheville, N.C., Rebecca Ratliff of Boydton and Martha Gussie Valentine of Newark; many nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Cat. An Elks service was held during visitation at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold. Interment took place at St. Paul’s Baptist Cemetery, Boydton.
