Obituaries Joan Freedman Mrs. Freedman, 71, a lifelong resident of Freehold, died Dec. 30 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New Brunswick, she had been living at Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, since 1990. Mrs. Freedman attended Freehold Borough public schools, graduated from Miss Fine’s School in Princeton and was an alumna of Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass. Surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Drs. Ann F. and Joseph B. Mizgerd of Marco Island, Fla., and Gaithersburg, Md., and Ellen F. and Anthony H. Dingman of Raleigh, N.C., and Huletts Landing, N.Y.; an aunt, Eve Gilbert of Sun City, Fla.; two nieces and two nephews; and several cousins. Interment, which was private, took place at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Michael J. Pascale Mr. Pascale, 70, of Middletown, died Dec. 29 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Middletown the past 36 years. He was a sales representative in the field office products for 30 years. Following graduation from college, he traveled with the Harlem Globetrotters Organization playing with the Washington Generals. He enjoyed golf and tennis. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Thomas in 1985; and a sister, Mary Ellen Price. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Donovan Pascale; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and John Luongo of Colts Neck; a sister, Kathleen Foley of California; and two grandchildren. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
Charles E. Ditmars Jr. Mr. Ditmars, 75, of Manalapan, died Dec. 29 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Clark and Keyport, prior to moving to Manalapan 13 years ago. He was supervisor of maintenance at the Department of Corrections, Avenel, for 10 years, retiring in 1997. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was an exempt fireman at the Eagle Hose Fire Department, Keyport. He was also a former member of the Keyport Planning Board, and past president of Keyport School Board. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Dimech Ditmars of Manalapan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Garry and Tammy Ditmars of West Palm Beach, Fla., Tommy and Carmella Ditmars of Branchburg, and Charles and Roslyn Ditmars of Collegeville, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Timothy Murphy of Matawan; and four grandchildren. Robert Duane Guy Mr. Guy, 84, of Freehold, died Dec. 28 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, and moved to Freehold in 1949. Mr. Guy was employed by Jersey Center Power & Light for 37 years before retiring in 1984, and worked as a special police officer for Freehold Borough from 1967 to 1983. He was a combat veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Guy joined the Freehold Borough Fire Department in 1950 and was captain of Monmouth Hose Company in 1964, fire chief from 1972 to 1974, president from 1979 to 1981, and captain of the fire police from 1989 to 2000. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons for 50 years and belonged to the Crescent Temple, Trenton. He was a charter member of the Freehold Babe Ruth League and a member of the First Baptist Church of Freehold. Mr. Guy was predeceased by a grandson, Terry Guy Jr., in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Dubois Guy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Jill Guy of Freehold, and Terry and Nancy Guy of Pequea, Pa.; a daughter, Judith Guy of Freehold; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Interment took place at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township, under the direction of the Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold. Memorial donations may be made to the Freehold Borough Fire Department, 49 W. Margaret Conlon Mrs. Conlon, 72, of Manalapan, died Dec. 28 at home. Born in County Cavan, Ireland, she had lived in Sayreville before moving to Manalapan five years ago. Mrs. Conlon was employed by the London Transit Authority and was a journeyman butcher for A&P supermarkets in Caldwell, Montclair and the Oranges for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Conlon, and a brother, William Galligan. Mrs. Conlon is survived by a son, John Conlon of Manalapan; a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Raymond Zimmerman of Manalapan; a sister, Mary Cannon of Blairstown; a brother, Peter Galligan of Hamilton, Ontario; and two grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, followed by interment at Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
John A. Barrett Mr. Barrett, 76, of Hazlet, died Dec. 28 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Hazlet since 1959. He was an electronics technician for the F.A.A., Newark Airport, the past 30 years. He served with the U.S.. Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea from 1946-50. He was a member and past president of the Irish Federation of Monmouth County, and was its Man of the Year in 2000. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Wirsing Barrett; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Teresa Barrett Jr. of Hazlet, and Edward and JeanMarie Barrett of Keansburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Tommy Dayback of Tinton Falls; two sisters, Edna Keating of Staten Island, N.Y., and Doris Young of Tupelo, Miss.; a brother, Ronald Barrett of Howell; and 10 grandchildren. Entombment was at Holmdel Mausoleum. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 2550 Route 1, North Brunswick 08902.
Raymond Miller Mr. Miller, 77, of Manalapan, died Dec. 27 at home. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he moved to Manalapan in 1965. Mr. Miller was a New York City firefighter for 25 years, retiring in 1976. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a past commander of American Legion Post No. 434, Englishtown. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. Mr. Miller was predeceased by his wife, Eileen, in 1983. He is survived by three sons, Michael Miller of East Brunswick, Raymond Miller of Kannapolis, N.C., and James of Metuchen; five daughters, Donna Lamirande of Howell, Karen Jahn of Manalapan, Eileen Frengs of Collingswood, Maureen Doscher of Ashburn, Va., and Jo-Ann Lobo of North Reading, Mass.; two brothers, Edward and Thomas Miller, both of Queens, N.Y.; a sister, Peggy Murphy of Peekskill, N.Y.; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1034 Salem Road, Union 07083-7058.
