Obituaries

Keith White

Mr. White, 35, of Freehold, died July 11 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. A lifelong Freehold resident, he graduated in 1988 from Freehold High School, Freehold Borough. He was a stock clerk for Bed Bath & Beyond, Manalapan, and had previously been employed by Tops N Town Cleaners in Freehold, as well as the N.J. Division of Parks & Forestry. Surviving are his parents, Fred and Ann Jackson White, with whom he had lived; a brother and sister-in-law, Erick and Sonia White of East Windsor; his paternal grandmother, Virginia White of Freehold; and a niece, Kayla White of East Windsor. Funeral services were held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Arnold H. Zucker

Mr. Zucker, 69, of Manalapan died June 30 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York City. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Manalapan in 1968. Mr. Zucker was the owner of Ampac Insurance Agency, Matawan, since 1982. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1954 to 1957. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, in March. Mr. Zucker is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Larry and Carolyn Zucker of Minneapolis, Corey and Cindy Zucker of Freehold, Bradley Zucker of Las Vegas, and Eddie and Wendy Jo Zucker of Manalapan; a daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Mark Kaback of Marlboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Shelley Zucker of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by interment at Mount Sinai Mausoleum, Marlboro.

Grace Gertrude August

Mrs. August, 67, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died July 12 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Born in Malden, Mass., she resided in Port Monmouth most of her life. She was a home health aide at Pace, Carteret, for five years, retiring in 2003. She was also a homemaker. She enjoyed bingo. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and Kenneth Falkenberg of Carteret, and Susan and Anthony Sherman of Port Monmouth; four sons and daughters-in-law, William and Lisa August of Howell, Matthew and Deborah August of Middletown, Lance and Jane August of Lanoka Harbor, and Manuel and Dawn August of Farmingdale; three brothers, Lawrence Robson of Florida, Richard Robson of Massachusetts, and Sonny Robson of Maine; and 14 grandchildren. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

David E. Leach Jr.

Mr. Leach, 85, of Avon, died July 16. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived there until he retired in 1982 and moved to Avon, where he had spent many summers with his family. He was a buyer for Hammacher Schlemmer, B. Altman & Co., Plummer McCutcheon, Benziger Bros. and the Navy Resale and Services Support Office. He graduated from St. Francis College, Brooklyn, earning a bachelor of arts degree in history. He then pursued postgraduate study in mechanical engineering at Manhattan College, Riverdale, N.Y., before serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. For more than 50 years, he was a communicant of the Church of St. Elizabeth in Avon, where he belonged to the Holy Name Society and also served as an acolyte and an extraordinary minister. In addition, he was a member of the Avon Leisure Club. Mr. Leach was predeceased in 1966 by his wife, Mary Sullivan Leach. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Dennis Suszkowski of Freehold, and Peggy and Joseph Scalise of both Avon and Rome, Italy; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Maureen Leach of Freehold Township; six grandchildren, Laura and David Detrick of Newark, Del., Alessandra Scalise of Avon and Rome, David and Jennifer Leach of Robbinsville, Brendan Leach of New Brunswick, and Caitlin Leach of Freehold Township; and a great-granddaughter, Caroline Marie Detrick. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Elizabeth Church, followed by burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Spring Lake. Arrangements were by O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township. Margaret (Kern) Confroy

Mrs. Confroy, of Byron Hall, Absecon Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Absecon, Atlantic County, died July 11 at the manor after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Newark, she had lived in Cranford and in Manalapan for 25 years before moving to Absecon. Prior to retiring, she was employed at Brunswick Bank and Trust Co. as an NCR operator. She had previously worked for Prudential and the American Can Co., and as a bank teller for Suburban Bank, Cranford. Mrs. Confroy was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, where she had served as a Eucharistic minister, taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) and belonged to the Renew group. She also initiated the reorganization of the church’s Rosary Society and was a member of the Christian Neighbors of Covered Bridge, Manalapan. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Confroy; her parents, Charles and Sophie Kern; three brothers, Harry, Charles and Andrew Kern; and a sister, Sophie Reuss. Surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Margaret and James Wiegers of Manalapan, and Karen Throckmorton of Northfield; a sister, Elizabeth Hurley of Bay Head; a sister-in-law, Minnie Kern of Kenilworth; four grandchildren, including Scott Wiegers and his wife, Theresa, of Brick; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia section of Woodbridge. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. Vincent J. Klapperstuck

Mr. Klapperstuck, 65, of Manalapan, died July 14 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born and raised in Jersey City, he moved to Manalapan 34 years ago. Mr. Klapperstuck was a letter carrier for the Manalapan/Englishtown post office from 1973 until his retirement in 2004. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1961. Surviving are his wife, Linda; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kris and Sam Grove, and Karen Klapperstuck; a sister, Ellen Heim of South Carolina; and one granddaughter. Funeral services were held at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by a chapel service and entombment at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery, Marlboro.
