On Campus

Kristen Jones of Howell was a member of the undergraduate mock trial team from Syracuse University that placed among the top 10 teams in the country at the National Mock Trial Tournament held at the Stetson Univer-sity School of Law in Florida recently. Jones is a sophomore political science major in Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences.

State University of New York at Binghamton named the following local students to the dean’s list: Amy B. Tedoff of Colts Neck; Elina M. Drits, Adam J. Goldrich, Ilana L. Grossman, Lonnie B. Kaplan, Lauren I. Schwartzberg and Andrew D. Koch, all of Manalapan; Michael J. Nassberg of Freehold; and Samantha R. Goldberg of Marlboro.

The University of Hartford, West Hartford, Conn., announced that its student advertising team has won the top prize in District 1 of the American Adver-tising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition, and is headed to the national finals. The 13-member team has been working since September to create a new campaign for Yahoo! Among the team members are Meryl Faden of Manalapan and John Lutz of Freehold.

Joshua Itzkowitz Shifrinson, son of Joan Itzkowitz and Stephen Shifrin-son of Marlboro, has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is a junior at Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass. He co-authored a paper, “Civil-Military Rela-tions in Israel and Turkey,” which has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Political and Military Sociol-ogy. He is a Justice Louis Brandeis scholar majoring in political science and history.

Michael Hertz, son of Janet and Howard Hertz of Marlboro, has been inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the national honor society for business schools accredited by the International Association for Management Education, the highest national recognition that a student in the field of business administration can achieve. He is a senior at the University of Delaware, Newark, Del. He was recently awarded the Depart-ment of Finance’s Outstanding Junior Award and the Finance Faculty Junior Scholarship Award. He is a 2003 graduate of Rutgers Preparatory School, Somerset.

Rachel L. Weiner, daughter of Bonnie and Alan Weiner of Marlboro, was the commencement speaker at the graduation ceremony of the American University School of Public Affairs in Washington, D.C. She also was awarded the Stafford H. Cassell Award for “selfless dedication to the university … as well as intellectual curiosity, friendliness and helpfulness.” A 2001 graduate of Marlboro High School, she will pursue a juris doctor degree at the Washington College of Law, Washington, D.C.

Marci J. Ginsberg, daughter of Mindy and Alan Ginsberg of Marlboro, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., where she is enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration.

Amanda Gold, daughter of Audrey and Mark Gold of Manalapan, has graduated from Penn State University, State College, Pa., with a bachelor of science degree in psychology with a minor in business and sociology from the College of Liberal Arts. She was named to the dean’s list and was a member of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology. She is a 2001 graduate of Manalapan High School.
