Acme opens second store in Freehold Township

Acme Markets has opened its second new superstore in Freehold Township.

The store, located at 200 Mounts Corner at the intersection of Wemrock Road and Route 537, opened its doors to customers ON Feb. 22.

A special grand-opening, ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the store, attended by Carl Jablonski, president of Acme, along with local officials. Jablonski is a native of New Jersey and a 34-year Acme veteran.

The store is expected to create up to 150 new jobs, according to the press release.

The 50,000-square-foot store features a wide range of departments and food services, including organic and exotic produce varieties, fresh sushi, butcher block and seafood counters, a floral department, 30-minute photo developing, money orders and money grams, CoinStar change counting machine, a copier machine and New Jersey Lottery.

To mark the store’s grand opening, the company and workers have pledged donations to two local organizations: the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, which will receive $1,000 from Acme, and the Municipal Alliance to Prevent Drug and Alcohol Abuse, which will receive $500 from United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1345.

According to the press release, Acme contributes more than $4 million in cash, goods and services annually to support various charitable and community organizations in its four-state marketing area. Acme also offers a discount gift certificate program, which gives local nonprofit organizations such as fire departments, schools, churches and synagogues the opportunity to raise funds for their organizations.

The company also has partnered with the Colgate Palmolive Co. to donate to the pediatric unit at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, a Nintendo Fun Center, which contains a television, a Nintendo, a VCR and a DVD player.

Acme is a Northeast retailer operating combination stores and supermarkets for a total of 137 locations in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Acme Markets is part of the Eastern Division of Albertsons Inc., which is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Its banners include Albertsons, Acme, Shaw’s, Jewel-Osco, Savon Drugs, Osco Drug, Star Markets, Super Saver and Bristol Farms.

Freehold Township’s other Acme store is in the Adelphia Plaza on Route 9 north at Elton-Adelphia Road.
