Obituaries

William R. Pendleton Jr.

Mr. Pendleton, 87, of Freehold, died Feb. 8 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He had lived in Rahway before moving to Freehold in 1976. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was predeceased in 1997 by his wife, Mary Pendleton. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Mary Ann Pendleton of Howell; a daughter, Donna A. Schwalje of the Fords section of Woodbridge; three grandchildren, Mark, Renee and William; and a great-grandson, Matthew. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.

Jeffrey Paul Cassidy

Mr. Cassidy, 48, formerly of Freehold, died Feb. 8 after a lengthy illness. A graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough, he was previously employed by Contemporary Motor Cars in Little Silver. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he was predeceased by his parents, Loretta and Robert Cassidy. Surviving are his wife, Donna; a daughter, Amber; two sons, Ryne and Robert; two sisters, Sheila Itinger and Janis Gruber; and four nieces, Lisa Hoffman, Lori Itinger, Jennifer Housedorf and Heather Gruber. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 31 Throckmorton St., Freehold.

Anthony “Tony” Fiorentini

Mr. Fiorentini, 82, of Tinton Falls, died Feb. 4 at home. Born in Haverhill, Mass., he resided in West Long Branch prior to relocating to Tinton Falls two years ago. He was the owner and operator of Tony’s Salon, (later known as Hair Flair), Deal, for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He served his country honorable in the U.S. Army Air Force. He enjoyed golf, dancing, and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Arline Drazdowich Fiorentini in 2001. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Yvonne Fiorentini of Las Vegas; two daughters and one son-in-law, Laura Seuffert of Colts Neck, and Lisa and Michael Canessa of Wall; and seven grandchildren. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07701.

Drew Marshall Baker Jr.

Mr. Baker, 78, of Manalapan, died Feb. 10 at Victoria Health Care Center, Matawan. Born in New Orleans, he had lived in Bowie, Md., before moving to Manalapan in 1977. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, where he also served as an usher. A graduate of Loyola University, New Orleans, he received a master of science degree from the University of Detroit and was a member of both schools’ alumni associations. Mr. Baker was a chemist for Shell Oil Co., the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency, with 36 years of federal government service prior to retiring in 1996. He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty McGeever Baker, as well as a daughter, Patricia Baker-Medina, in 1997. Surviving are his wife, Jean Carroll Baker; four sons, Daniel L. Baker of Jackson, James M. Baker of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., Michael T. Baker of Barnegat, and Timothy J. Baker of Sumter, S.C.; three daughters, Carol G. Baker of Spokane, Wash., Mary McMahon of Brick and Maureen J. Jordan of Howell; a sister, Julia Catherine Hamburg of Hammond, La., and 21 grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. George A. Lloyd Jr.

Mr. Lloyd, 74, of Freehold, died Feb. 10 at Shore Meadows, Dover Township. Born in Freehold, he was a lifelong resident and attended the Reformed Church of Freehold. Before retiring 30 years ago, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, Freehold, for 27 years. He was also a manager in both the Freehold Little League and the Freehold Babe Ruth Baseball League. Surviving are two sons, George “Kippy” Lloyd III of Tennessee and Jon Lloyd of Brick; two daughters, Sharon Burdge of Millstone and Karen Sakker of Brick; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 Route 1, North Brunswick 08902.

Fred E. Schweitzer

Mr. Schweitzer, 78, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died Feb. 10 at St. Barnabas Hospice, Long Branch. Born in Mountainside, he resided there prior to moving to Cliffwood Beach 53 years ago. He was a retired type maker at American Type Founders, Elizabeth, where he was employed 46 years. He was also a school crossing guard in Aberdeen for eight years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Janet G. Schweitzer in 1996; a daughter, Ellen Schweitzer in 1955; and a son, Thomas Schweitzer in 1968. He is survived by a daughter, Jane Delaney of Howell; a son, John Schweitzer of Matawan; a brother, Arthur Schweitzer of Garwood; a sister, Evelyn Infantino of Kenilworth; and five grandchildren. Interment was at Fair View cemetery, Westfield. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Helen M. Niblett

Mrs. Niblett, 85, of Freehold, died Feb. 11 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Freehold for most of her life and was a graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough. She had also attended Rider College (now Rider University), Lawrenceville. Prior to retiring, she was a secretary for Dr. Harvey Weinstein, and had previously been employed in the payroll department at the A&M Karagheusian rug mill, Freehold. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold, and belonged to the Freehold Township Senior Citizens Club. Mrs. Niblett was predeceased in 1966 by her husband, Leonard Niblett. Surviving are three nieces, Jean Lackett and Barbara A. Zoppi, both of Howell, and Roberta Nardi of Richmond, Mass.; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends, including Colleen Cashman of Freehold. The funeral service was held at St. Peter’s Church, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 33 Throckmorton St., Freehold 07728.

Barbara A. Brown

Mrs. Brown, 68, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Feb. 8 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in the Middletown area most of her life. She was a retired shop steward at Lily Tulip, Holmdel, where she was employed several years. She was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Noren Jan. 11. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Edmund S. Brown; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edmund C. and Francine Brown of Middletown, Richard E. and Laura Brown of Hamilton Square, and Kenneth C. and Cynthia Brown of Middletown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa A. and Brian Bragg of South East Palm Bay, Fla., Lori A. and Michael Taylor of Freehold, and Lynel A. and Steven Lepkoski of Middletown; two brothers, Robert Noren of Las Vegas, and Bruce Noren of Chapman Boro, Tenn.; and two sisters, Sheila Campisi of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., and Sandra Sandifur of Spring Hill, Fla. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
