Obituaries Carolyn M. Sherman Mrs. Sherman, 60, of Keansburg, died Dec. 11 at home. Born in Newark, she resided there prior to moving to Keansburg in 1972. She was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. She enjoyed time with her family and bingo. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Sherman in 1994, a daughter, Carolyn Andalora Hazzard in 1995, and a sister, Geneieve Tamarato in 1982. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mark and Charlene Andalora, Steven Andalora, and Bill and June Sherman, all of Keansburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Ralph Gencarelli of Keansburg, and Jody and Bill Sherman of the Leonardo section of Middletown; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Frank Corso of Hazlet, Debra and Harry Paule of Belford, and Barbara and Bill August of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alan and Rose Young of Manalapan, and Kevin and Donna Young of Jackson; and eight grandchildren. A funeral gathering will be Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will follow at 10:15 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
Renee Behar Mrs. Behar, 80, of Freehold Township, died Nov. 30 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Freehold Township for the past nine years. She was a volunteer at CentraState, the Manor Care Center and the Battered Women’s Shelter. She was a former president of the Sephardic Jewish Center of Canarsie, N.Y., and was also active in the Raintree community where she lived. Mrs. Behar was predeceased by her husband, Michael. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Andrew and Sheri Behar, of Manalapan, and Steven Behar, of Howell; and two grandchildren, Rachel and Michael. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, with burial at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.
Barbara Greenberg Mrs. Greenberg, 58, of Monroe, formerly of Marlboro, died Nov. 27. Surviving are her husband, Murray; a daughter and son-in-law, Meredith and Dean; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Evan and Alexis, and Steven; a brother-in-law, Herbert; and five grandchildren. Gertrude L. Spafford Ellison Mrs. Ellison, 88, of Keyport, died Nov. 29 at Summerhill Nursing Home, Old Bridge. Born in Matawan, she was a lifelong resident of Keyport. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Hazlet. She was predeceased by her husband, Jud Ellison; five brothers, George, Francis, William, Donald and Clare Spafford; and a sister, Stella Spafford-Flannelly. She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Maude Spafford, of Aberdeen, Lillian Spafford, of Morganville, Angie Spafford, of Florida, and Madelyn Spafford, of Bordentown; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Anna Rose Silver Mrs. Silver, 101, of Howell, died Nov. 29 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Born in Constantine, Poland, she had lived in the Bronx, N.Y., New Rochelle, N.Y., and Manalapan before moving to Howell six years ago. She was a life member of Hadassah, both in Freehold and New Rochelle. Mrs. Silver was predeceased in 1983 by her husband, Harold Silver. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Phyllis Silver of San Diego; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Allan Koplitz of Howell; a sister, Gussie Silver of the Bronx; six grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Ruth Schneier Mrs. Schneier, 85, of Manalapan, died Dec. 3 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had resided in the New York area for more than 50 years before moving to Manalapan 30 years ago. She was a founding member and past president of the Ocean Parkway Chapter of B’nai B’rith; a life member of Deborah; and a member of Seniors First at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Schneier was predeceased in March by her husband of 62 years, Sidney. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and James Groelinger, of Mahwah; a brother, Ira Nydick, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. George W. Christensen Mr. Christensen, 74, of Freehold Township, died Dec. 7 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Freehold Township for many years. Prior to retiring, he was a maintenance worker for Freehold Township schools. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a volunteer at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4374, Freehold Township. Mr. Christensen was predeceased in 1992 by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Christensen. Surviving are two sons, Cory Douglas Christensen, of Freehold Township, and Carl Drew Christensen, of New Hope, Pa.; a brother, Tony Bartell, of Studio City, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Pvt. Ryan Christensen, who is serving with the U.S Army at Fort Stewart, Ga., and Fiona Elizabeth Christensen. Graveside services were held at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Janet B. Quinn Mrs. Quinn, 63, of Manalapan, died Dec. 8 at home. Born in Brookline, Pa., she had lived in Manalapan for many years. Prior to retiring a couple of months ago, she was employed at the Monmouth County Library, Manalapan, for 25 years. Surviving are her husband, Thomas F. Quinn; two sons, Michael Quinn, of White Plains, N.Y., and Stephen Quinn, of Manalapan; two daughters, Ann Goodlow, of Monroe, and Cassie Kelly, of Jackson; a brother, Alan Garfinkel, of Nanuet, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. Graveside services were held the following day at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
