Complaint: Signs, signs, everywhere signs

For years real estate offices have been putting up “For Sale” signs on properties they have listed. On the day of an open house the agent would put up directional signs pointing to the open house and immediately remove them after the showing was over.

This behavior over the years has been readily accepted by fair-minded homeowners. The only dissatisfaction would be when the agent was too lazy or uncaring to quickly remove the open house signs.

All of this is changing for at least one realty office, which is putting up several arrow signs to blaze a trail to their listed house.

There were eight such signs erected near our home — seven now after I demanded they remove one from our property. One is immediately adjacent to a fire hydrant. This is a no-no. There should never be any obstruction to a hydrant’s access or visibility, which the office was made aware of.

If this concept catches on, or the offending office is allowed to continue, our neighborhoods will be taking on a carnival atmosphere with all of the signs.

All real estate agents carry county atlases, which they use to look up listings they want to find.

Maybe our town officials need to look into this cheap and sneaky way to advertise and enact regulations to curb this blight.
