Children to help build menorah

“Can we build it? Yes we can!” is the rallying call to children of all ages who are being asked to don yellow hard hats and wield tools to help “Bob” build a Hanukkah menorah beginning at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at Freehold Raceway Mall, Route 9, Freehold Township.

The 10-foot tall menorah that the youngsters will construct near the J.C. Penney and Lord & Taylor stores under the supervision of rabbis from Chabad of Western Monmouth County and yeshiva students will be lit and displayed in the mall during the festival of Hanukkah.

“Kids are fascinated by creating and building using real materials,” said Rabbi Avraham Bernstein of the construction site theme of this year’s menorah, in which the children will participate as contractors.

Honored guests will participate in lighting the menorah at 5 p.m. at the mall, and the event will include Hanukkah arts and crafts projects for the children, and singing, dancing, doughnuts and chocolate gelt (candy) for all. In addition, there will be a raffle with prizes.
