Thomas A. Zangle, son of Miriam and Andrew Zangle of Marlboro, has been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H. He also was named a Rufus Choate Scholar for the 2003-04 term.

Natalie Vadas, of Howell, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pa., where she is majoring in science.

Jonathan P. Nouri, of Englishtown, has graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y., with a bachelor of science degree in management.

Meaghan A. Calnan, daughter of Tina and Mark Calnan, of Freehold, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Marist College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The first class of New Jersey Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship (NJ STARS) recipients from Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, was recognized at a reception Nov. 23 at the college’s student life center. Seven of the 73 recently joined approximately 450 scholarship students at the governor’s residence, Drumthwacket, Princeton, at which (former) Gov. James E. McGreevey addressed attendees and praised the students’ academic achievements. Present at the event were local students Danae Estes, a graduate of Marlboro High School, and Natalie Nardone, a graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough. Recipients must graduate in the top 20 percent of the student’s high school class. The scholarships cover two years of tuition and approved fees at the student’s local community college.

Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y., has designated the following local residents as peer facilitators at the university’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management: Todd Burach of Manalapan, a sophomore majoring in general studies in management; and Janet Levine of Howell, a sophomore majoring in marketing management.

Dawn Tyrrell of Howell was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Babson College, Wellesley, Mass.

Michelle Coderre of Freehold was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Neumann College, Aston, Pa. She is a nursing major.

Thomas Edison State College, Trenton, held its annual commencement Oct. 16 at the War Memorial in Trenton, where the college awarded 1,788 degrees. The graduates from the local area are David C. Dombroski of Freehold, bachelor of science in applied science and technology; and Teresa Fisher of Manalapan, bachelor of arts.

Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y., designated the following local residents as dean’s scholars: Alanna Hernando of Manalapan, a student at the university’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communi-cations, recipient of the S.I. Newhouse Scholarship; and Kristine Delgado of Freehold, a student at the College of Arts and Sciences, recipient of the Betty and Dean Wolcott Endowed Dean’s Scholar-ship.

The following residents were named chancellor’s scholars at the university: Jaclyn Tyndorf of Manalapan and Jessica Shoffel of Howell, both students at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communica-tions.

And, the following residents were inducted into the university’s chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, an honor society that recognizes academic excellence and promotes scholarship among first-year college students: Andrew Levy of Manalapan and Tara Walsh of Howell, both students at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communi-cations; and Evan Olesh of Marlboro, a student at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.

Jessica Cohen of Manalapan was named a Remembrance Scholar at Syracuse (N.Y.) University. The scholarships were founded as a tribute to the 35 Syracuse University students who were killed in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, while returning to the United States from a semester of study abroad. Cohen, a 2001 graduate of Freehold Township High School, is a senior majoring in political science and broadcast journalism in the College of Arts and Sciences and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communica-tions.

Marci Ginsberg of Marlboro was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. She is a 2003 graduate of Marlboro High School.
