Brittany Komack, a Marlboro High School senior, has been nominated to compete in the national Principals’ Leadership Award scholarship program, sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. One hundred-fifty national PLA winners will be chosen in the spring to receive $1,000 college scholarships.
Komack is the president of the student council at Marlboro High School and has held several other positions, including assemblywoman of the student council, class president for two years, and liaison to the superintendent of the Freehold Regional High School District. She also has served on the superintendent’s advisory council, is a member of the National Honor Society and the Classical World and Languages Honor Society, and is involved in several service projects.
Master Gardener classes
to begin in February
The Monmouth County Master Gardener program will begin its next class in February. The program is for anyone interested in gardening and learning about horticulture, and willing to share that knowledge with others.
Applications are due Jan. 1, and the classes will begin in mid-February on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for 11 weeks. There is a $150 fee for the course, and a 60-hour volunteer requirement to become a certified master gardener.
The Master Gardener program of Monmouth County is sponsored by Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Monmouth County in cooperation with the Monmouth County Park System and Brookdale Community College.
