Obituaries Robert James Beams Mr. Beams, 70, of Freehold, died Oct. 1 at home. Born in Long Branch, he had lived in the Freehold and Howell area all his life. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served from 1952-55, he was employed by E.I. DuPont, Parlin section of Sayreville, for 35 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 54 and Elks Lodge No. 1454, both of Freehold, as well as the North Shore Antique Automobile Club. He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence John Beams, in 1991; a grandson, Robert James Beams II, in 2002; his parents, Edward and Muriel Beams; and two brothers, Frank and Edward Beams. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Louise Vanderveer Beams; three sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Kathy Beams of Howell, Kenneth and Michele Beams, of Toms River, and Thomas and Robin Beams, of Jackson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy and Stephen Bibby, of Freehold, and Lori Beams, of Englishtown; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Arlene Beams, of Freehold, Sandy and Paul Petro, of Lakewood, Joyce Befarah, of Belmar, and Janet Aeling and Nancy and Thomas Baehney, of Howell; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joseph and Marion Beams, of Florida, and Frederick Beams, of West Virginia; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Yeshwant Karandikar Mr. Karandikar, 68, of Manalapan, died Oct. 1 at home. Born in India, he had lived in South Brunswick before moving to Manalapan three years ago. He was a retired civil engineer. Surviving are his wife, Shaila; three sons, Mahesh of Seattle, Devesh, of New York City and Paresh, of Herndon, Va. Funeral services were private, with Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Jean Ruth Kaufmann Mrs. Kaufmann, 58, of Freehold, died Oct. 7 at home. Born in Neptune Township, she had lived in Freehold all her life. For the past 14 years, she was a code enforcement officer for the borough of Freehold. Surviving are her husband of 23 years, Peter G. Kaufmann; three daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Todd, Robin and Jim, and Diane and Bruce; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Tommy, Jimmy and Tammy, Joseph and Angela, and Peter and Stephanie; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by entombment at Maplewood Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702. Mildred Conover Hart Mrs. Hart, 89, of Freehold, died Oct. 2 at Bartley Healthcare Center, Jackson. Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., she had resided in Freehold and Lords Valley, Pa., before returning to Freehold in 1996. Prior to retiring in 1968, she was employed by Air Cruisers Co., Wall Township, for many years. She was predeceased by her first husband, William E. Conover Sr.; her second husband, William Hart; and a grandson and granddaughter, Christopher Conover and Lori Ann Edgar. Surviving are four sons and three daughters-in-law, William E. Jr. and Alice Conover, and Alan P. and Susan Conover, all of Freehold, Gary A. and Barbara Conover, of Morris Plains, and Russell W. Conover, of Middletown; a stepdaughter, Carol Tilton and her husband, Robert, of Powhatan, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Grace C. Larson Mrs. Larson, of Eatontown, died Oct. 6 at home. She resided in Keansburg before moving to Eatontown 52 years ago. Mrs. Larson was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. She enjoyed bingo and gardening. She was predeceased by two brothers; and two sisters. Mrs. Larson is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert W. Larson Sr.; two sons, John R Larson of Freehold and Robert W. Larson Jr. of Tinton Falls; a sister, Christine Paris of Eatontown; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Dorothea’s Church. Entombment was at Woodbine Cemetery Mausoleum, Oceanport. The Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, was in charge of arrangements. John D. Horvath Mr. Horvath, 50, died Oct. 7 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Rahway, he had lived in Perth Amboy before moving seven years ago to Manalapan, where he was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. For more than 20 years, he was employed by ConocoPhillips in Linden as a refinery operator. Mr. Horvath was predeceased by his father, John M. Horvath. Surviving are his wife, Heidi; two children, Anthony and Alexa, both at home; his mother, Rose Horvath, of Rahway; and a sister, Justina Horvath, of Edison. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Thomas More Church, followed by entombment at Marlboro Memorial Park Mausoleum, Marlboro. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the family for their children’s education fund.
