Zachary Foundation to hold run/walk Oct. 24

MARLBORO — The Zachary Foundation will hold a 5K and 1-mile run/walk on Oct. 24 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Marlboro Recreation Community Center, Wyncrest Road, rain or shine. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.

Participants are invited to run, walk, roll or stroll on a paved course through residential roads. Anyone who preregisters will receive a free T-shirt, and after the run/walk there will be face painting, clowns, magicians and raffles. Prizes will be awarded.

The Zachary Foundation will donate the funds to physicians and organizations that are engaged in research for mitochondrial disease and in particular pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency, a rare form of the disease.

In people with mitochondrial disease, the mitochondria do not turn food into the needed energy that provides the fuel for the organs of muscles in the body. There is no proven treatment or cure.

On the day of the event, the fees will be $30 per individual and $110 per family, respectively. For more information, call (732) 809-0260 or write to The Zachary Foundation, P.O. Box 124, Marlboro 07746.
